In just a matter of weeks, the NDDC will have a new boss, and he is the defeated governorship aspirant of the APC in April 11, 2015 election in Akwa Ibom state, Chief Umanah Umanah, a popular Akwa Ibom politician, former SSG and commissioner of finance. As SSG in former Governor Akpabio’s cabinet, the APC standard bearer reject his nomination for the position in 2014, and thereafter got removed from office by the governor. His rejection of the position was seen as a strategy to send him out of the state to pave way for Mr. Emmanuel Udom, who was the candidate favoured by Akpabio.
The Acting NDDC MD was appointed on December 19, 2015, and is from Rivers state. Insider sources in Aso Rock say that president will continue with the statutory rotational arrangement among member states, and have approved the MD position for Akwa Ibom state. To compensate Rivers State, the president has also approved the nomination the Dr. Adol Peterside, APC governorship aspirant in Rivers state, as DG of NIMASA, a decision that has vexed the APC Bayelsa chapter. Chief Timipre Sylva, leader of Bayelsa APC is not happy that the state has been marginalised in federal appointments, with just a junior minister.

Mrs. Ibim Semenitari is said to have commenced the development of a blueprint to reposition the NDDC in just three months as acting managing director. A staff of the commission described her as a hardworking woman, but said it would take a while for her to understand the politics of the region.

Our sources in the Villa, however, also confirms that Mrs. Semenitari may be moved to the ministry of information, which is her forte. Semenitari has been a journalist for about 20 years before joining the Rivers state government as commissioner of Information
