I have taken time to study the actions, inactions and reactions of this APC federal government. My findings are as follows:
1. That the party was fundamentally predicated on opposition, pointedly at the former govt.
2. That they therefore did not approach their chase for power with any economic research nor projections on possibilities on what and how to deliver on governance in the event that they won. This is why we are seeing so many policy summersaults and “downgrading” of campaign promises, as Lai put it.
3. That coming from an essentially opposition background they have continued to communicate on the basis and in the language of opposition hence the continued reference to the former govt and inability to communicate their own programmes and governance to the citizenry.
4. That having been used to dishing out opposition, they are pitiably unable to take opposition themselves and that is why they have become irritable with every criticism. Indeed, it is so funny, that even in the anti-corruption war, they are unable to accept that issues will be contested at the judiciary. You would notice their ridiculous complaints, irritability and wish that lawyers should not stand to defend accused persons.
They are acting like a boxer who wants to jab but cannot and does not expect to receive punches.
5. They believe that whatever they do or say should be accepted as gospel without any criticism nor opposition.
6. They believe that even when they bungle, like they are doing with the budget, citizens should still blame their failures on Jonathan.
7. They believe that when we complain of herdsmen killing farmers and destroying their crops, people should not talk nor take the govt to task.
8. They believe that they have no responsibility to devise good economic sense to check the depreciation of the Naira, except we just blame it on Jonathan and let them be.
8. They believe that citizens should not demand better service on electricity and fuel supply, except we just continue to point at Jonathan.
9. They believe that when they say they inherited a bad economy, citizens should not demand action from them to improve on it.
10. They forget that Jonathan is gone, gone, that the table has turned and that they are now in charge and cannot continue to play opposition
They forget that to whom much is given, much is expected.
