The Integrity challenged government of President Muhammadu Buhari has suffered another blow, as the President himself has declared to the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) that he will no longer make a public declaration of his assets as he promised Nigerians during the election.

Buhari who has distanced himself from the over 201 campaign promises he made to Nigerians, reneged on his promise to make specific details of his assets public, and said that he will not release comprehensive particulars of the assets he filed to the CCB.

The CCB claimed that the president intimated them that he would make full disclosure after verification of the listed items by the CCB in 2015. This according to Hope For Nigeria, will help President Buhari to modify his assets declaration form if CCB find any error or omission and to avoid his facing the same fate and challenges Senator Bukola Saraki is tackling today.

The Code of Conduct Bureau in a statement said verification of the President Buhari’s assets had been concluded since last year and now and Buhari has made a u-turn not to make it public.

The presidency through Mallam Garba Shehu, a presidential spokesperson on September 3, 2015, amidst nationwide clamour for Buhari to make good his election promise, released only sketchy details of assets and liabilities filed by President Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

Mallam Shehu stated that President Buhari who during election claimed that he hand only N1million in his bank account, had N30million in his bank account before taking office on May 29, 2015 while the Vice President Osinbajo had N94million and $900,000 in foreign accounts.

Other listed assets President Buhari listed to CCB include 5 houses in Kaduna, Daura, Kano and Abuja; two undeveloped plots of land, one in Kano and the other in Port Harcourt.

Regrettably, the house President Buhari’s media spokesman, Femi Adesina claimed that Buhari sold in Lagos to buy Forex for his children education in England was not included the above list.

Mallam Shehu added that Buhari also had farms, an orchard, ranch, livestock including 270 cattle, 25 sheep, five horses, a variety of birds and a number of economic trees, according to the statement. The president had an unstated “number of cars”, including those bought for him by former NSA boss, Col Sambo Dasuki rtd.

The asset declaration by the President and his Vice lacked specific details as required by law, as addresses and value of listed houses, and assets of spouses and unmarried children under 18 were not declared.

Mallam Shehu’s announcement came after repeated refusal by President Buhari and his government to fulfill its promise of making their assets public within its first 100 days in office.

The Nigerian government which is good in giving excuses and inaccurate claims, stated initially, that President Buhari was awaiting verification of the declared assets by the Code of Conduct Bureau before going public.

After 221 days after verification of President Buhari’s declared assets by the CCB, the president has finally instructed the commission not to release his assets as their are notable omissions in his declaration.
