The House of Representatives Special Ad hoc committee on the review of the 1999 constitution Thursday said it has adopted the report of 2014 National Conference as part of its working document.

The decision to adopt the report of the National conference according to Wole Oladimeji, Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Speaker of the House, Yussuff Lasun in a statement in Abuja was taken at a working session/retreat of the committee recently held at Transcorp Hilton hotel, Abuja.

Recall that former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration had convoked a national constitutional conference that lasted about four months in 2014, but the administration did not submit the report of the conference to National Assembly. But the statement by Oladimeji stated that the meeting where the House decided to adopt the report of the conference for the ongoing constitutional review was presided over by Lasun who is also the chairman of the committee. He said, “Copies of the report have been circulated to members of the committee‎ to go through and come up with recommendations to the committee while the consultants to the committee have given the report to advise the committee on how to go about it. “Some of the salient proposals in the report would be turned into draft bills‎ which would be presented to the house for adoption and passage. “The committee would commence work on the review immediately the House resumes from its Sallah break.”
