The news reaching the Newsroom of Oblong Media has it that a Kaduna State High Court presided over by Honourable Justice Esther Lolo has ruled against Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasiru El-Rufai in favour of Barr Gloria Mabeim Ballasson, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of House of Justice and principal partner of Mive Legals.
The judgement was delivered today by Honourable Justice Esther Lolo of the Kaduna state High court.
While delivering her judgement, justice Esther read that “The court held that the applicant has shown sufficient material to proved that her fundamental rights to life, liberty, thought and right to expression as provided under chapter 4 of the constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) and African Charter of Human and peoples rights is likely to be breach by the respondent.”
“Consequently, the court restraints the respondent, Governor Nasiru El-Rufai of Kaduna state, and its agents from arresting, prosecuting and jailing the applicant.”
“Also the court hereby awards the sum of fifty thousand naira (N50,000) as damages in favour of the applicant,” the Judge ruled.
Oblong Media recalls that Barr Gloria Mabeim Ballasson who is based in Kaduna had filed a case against Governor El-Rufai in January 2017 following the threat issued by the latter (El-Rufai) to arrest the Lawyer over the article she wrote on killings in Kaduna, which was published on 17th January, 2017 in Blue Prints, a Kaduna based newspaper.
The Barrister had sued the governor over threat and attempt to violate her fundamental rights.
