Do you also know why they insist on having a grazing path across the length and breadth of Nigeria, especially, the South?
Let me sort out the economic reasoning first. It is estimated that over 40,000 cows are consumed everyday, especially in the South, 1.2million catlles every month and around 15million every year. If you put an average of N100,000- N150,000 as the price of a Cow, you will discover that the owners of these cows, who are mostly Fulani bigmen of the Miyetti ALLAH group, mostly retired generals and politicians (forget the poor herdmen that work for them ), make conservatively N6billion everyday; N180billion every month, N540billion every quarter and N2.16trillion every year. Monies that are mostly not taxed. These monies are bigger than the 4 years earnings of all the South East states joined together, both FAAC, JAAC and IGR.
Putting the cattles in the ranches will increase their operational costs. It will also help the authorities to compute and apply taxations on their income. So they will have none of it. They just want to send the cattles to the South, pay the herdsmen they arm to the teeth to kill their hosts peanuts and then cart away trillions annually. These herdsmen will destroy other people’s farms, forcefully occupy their lands, all that they do is get the cows to meet, reproduce every year and that is all.
Their patron, Mohammadu Buhari, who was photographed the other day inspecting a ranch in Kenya, the other day he visited Kenya will not ask his people to set up ranches, rather they are mapping out grazing paths to give to the Mostly governors of the South East/SW and SS to implement. What audacity.
I have farm lands outside my state. Every inch of the land I use for my business, I bought from the communal owners. I paid them with cash and automobiles. So why would someone come from Daura or Gusau to create a path on my land in the South East that I purchased with millions of naira without paying for it? It is my right, my inalienable rights either to accept or refuse to sell my land to you.
On the political side, they just seek to dominate and conquer. It is in their history and blood. They come in stealthily and subtly, before you know it they have established a fiefdom. If you doubt this ask the Ofonjas of kwara state.
Animal husbandry is good. It is very lucrative. It is a cash cow. But those who seek to do it must pay the right considerations, taxes and respect the absolute rights of the indigenous owners of the land they seek to acquire. Negotiate with them, pay the right considerations and taxes. That is how we all can considerably, consistently and sustainably grow this nation in equity, love, justice and fairness.
