It is not surprising that soon after a most successful and first South-East South-South Conference organized by the South-East South-South Network (SESSNet) held in Owerri, Imo State, the most vicious attack at efforts being made to bridge gaps (perceived and real) between the peoples of the South-East and South-South regions was instigated and has gone viral on social media.

A flurry of instigated hate-speeches, vicious abuses and disrespectful rants against the peoples of the twin regions rent the airwaves in an effort to avoid any efforts at unity between peoples with shared histories, aspirations and of common purpose. The same elements who have benefited from the disunity amongst the peoples of the SE and SS regions, gleefully shared and reposted the vile utterances being spread, mocking efforts at mending fences and unifying the resolve to work in harmony and peace.

We must be wiser. Neighbours and brothers will not be pitted one against the other whilst elements far removed from our territories continue to rob the polity blind, enriching their pockets from the wealth of the twin regions.

Let us all ready ourselves for the 2nd South-East South-South Conference scheduled for 30th September 2017 in Benin City, Edo State.

The Bridges will only get strengthened!
