I once posited that if someone in Lagos must attend a meeting in Trafalgar Square in London on a fixed date, maybe 3 weeks away, it is an option to trek to London, to ride on a donkey or on horseback, to ride on a bicycle or a motorcycle, to drive in a motor vehicle, to sail by canoe, speedboat or ship.

The person can also fly into Heathrow and get off to Trafalgar Square.

If I am the one who has to attend that meeting, I will fly.

That is the kind of options juggling going on in the current disputations around Nigeria’s Protocols for mutual coexistence called “Constitution”.

The LNC and the rest of the Eastern Nigeria Self-determination Collective and in fact the larger Igbo Leadership Collective have repudiated and rejected wholesale, the fraudulent 1999 Constitution as the basis of Nigeria.

The Uturu World Igbo Summit of November 2016 expressly captured same in their Communiqué and demanded an immediate return to the 1963 Republican Constitutional Model for Federating.

The recently concluded Igbo Summit in Enugu Convened by the World Igbo Congress, May 27, 2017 in its Resolution Number 6, reiterated the same repudiation and rejection of the obnoxious 1999 Constitution, going further to reject the conduct of any further National Elections on the basis of the 1999 Constitution and demanding that the Questions arising from the known Constitutional Grievances of Eastern Nigeria, currently being litigated by a younger generation as Biafra Agitation, be referred forthwith to a Referendum of the People.

The May 30th 2017 Biafra Day Shutdown of the East is itself an informal yet emphatic-enough Referendum of the People on their rejection of Nigeria as currently defined and a desire to seek a new future away from the toxic Union of Attrition

It is against this backdrop that one can clearly see the total disconnect between the People of Eastern Nigeria and the Members of the National Assembly, particularly the House of Representatives, who instead of joining the People they claim to “Represent” in the total repudiation and rejection of the Master-Servant “1999 Constitution”, imposed on us by the Victorious Alliance of the rest of Nigeria in the 1967-1970 War, they cling tenaciously to that fraud of a Constitution, holding it sacrosanct for the benefits that accrue to them personally, and asking all of us to wear our shackles with equanimity and wait for when our conquerors and tormentors will repent and Vote to insert a Referendum Clause in the so-called 1999 Constitution !.

Let it be known to those Members of the National Assembly from the East who also recently pushed forward the so-called “South East Economic Commission” Bill which was cavalierly thrown out by the Representative of the rest of Nigeria, that the Constitutional Amendment they seek to insert a Referendum Clause will be entirely at the mercy and discretion of that same rest of Nigeria as represented in the National Assembly to grant or not to grant.

Let it be known to those Eastern Nigeria Representatives in the National Assembly that by pushing for solutions that depend entirely on the discretion of the determined enemies of the East instead of aligning with and supporting the autonomous Self-Determination efforts being exerted by the Independence Agitation of the East, they are actually working to sustain the Status Quo which enslave the People of Eastern Nigeria they claim to represent and in whose name they draw huge financial benefits.

Let it be known to them that the Eastern Nigeria Self-Determination Collective view as utter hypocrisy, their hanging in with their oath to defend and uphold the fraudulent 1999 Constitution which their Constituents so vehemently reject even to the point of death, as we now see with the “Biafra” Agitation.

Let it be known to those Representatives that the litmus test on the issue of being FOR or AGAINST the People they represent is whether they EMBRACE or REJECT the obnoxious 1999 Constitution which their Constituents already repudiated and rejected.

Let it be known to those Representative that the least they can do right now is to fully join the rest of the Eastern Nigeria Leadership Collective in expressly demanding that the Questions arising from the disputations in Eastern Nigeria on the Being and Terms of the Nigerian Union MUST now go to a General Referendum of the Peoples of Eastern Nigeria.

Anything less than this is self-serving and directly at the service of the enemy which torment the People they represent.

The LNC warns that time runs critically low for all concerned especially the Politicians of Eastern Nigeria, to make the choice of either being on the side of the People on this vexed issue that now border on existential threats or to remain on the side of the enemy which the current enshackling, enslaving and debilitating 1999 Constitution represent.

There is no middle ground including the attempts to pass palliative Laws and Constitutional Amendments.

The middle is a dangerous chasm over which no one can jump if the situation snaps.

Secretary-General,
