Invitation to the Hand Shake Across The Niger Event.

We write on behalf of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) of the Nzuko Umunna (NU) for the Handshake across the Niger project. NU is facilitating Handshake across the Niger project under the auspices of Ohaneze Ndigbo and in conjunction with Afenifere, and wish to request your kind presence and participation at the forthcoming Hand Shake Across The Niger Event holding at Enugu as follows:

Date: January 11, 2018

Theme: Handshake Across The Niger: A necessity for mutual growth and development.

The raison d’etre for the event is that two or three generations of Igbo and Yoruba have grown up inheriting mutual antagonism. It behoves our generation to break this mould and move our regions from a place of destructive competition to that of constructive collaboration.

It is difficult to predict the future of Nigeria should the status quo be allowed to continue. Will the nation be restructured or will it collapse?

Regardless of how Nigeria pans out, it is in the long term interest of all of us that we begin to create friendship amongst neighbors and we believe you have a very strong voice that can speak to this strategic rethinking of our future.

This event is an important continuation of recent practical steps taken in that long journey.

The template for this mutual understanding between Igbo and Yoruba ,whose common origin has been scientifically proven by the global DNA study, has been laid by Gen Aguiyi Ironsi and Lt Col Adekunle Fajuyi in the glorious bond of their last hours on earth. It is this eternal bond that we celebrate and commend at the gathering of Igbo and Yoruba nations as follows:

The President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo will be the Chief Host while the Obi of Onitsha and the Ooni of Ife are Royal Fathers of the day. Afenifere’s Professor Banji Akintoye is Chairman organising committee.
