Senator Victor Umeh, representing Anambra Central, took significant steps in resolving the Abule-Ado buildings’ demolition issue in Lagos. His proactive efforts led to a pivotal meeting on November 28th, 2023, at the Federal Housing Authority (FHA) headquarters in Abuja. At this session, he engaged in constructive discussions with Senator Gbenga Ashafa, the Managing Director of the FHA, alongside Barrister Hajara Kadiri, the General Manager of Zonal Coordination.

Their discussions were aimed at devising a mutually beneficial resolution to halt the ongoing demolitions in the Abule-Ado areas of Festac, Lagos state. Senator Umeh’s role as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Diaspora and NGOs, as well as the Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Land, Housing, and Urban Development, underscored his commitment to finding a fair and equitable solution for the affected homeowners.

One of the significant outcomes of the meeting was the agreement to suspend further demolitions while the Federal Housing Authority and stakeholders work together to establish Terms of Settlement. These terms will aim to address the concerns of all parties involved, ensuring a resolution that benefits the community and property owners alike. Senator Umeh’s dedication to this cause marks a commendable effort towards fostering harmony and fairness in resolving complex housing issues.
