On this Children’s Day, as we reflect on the challenges facing Nigeria, it is equally important to celebrate the remarkable achievements of our youth who, despite the odds, continue to shine and inspire.

Nigeria’s youth possess incredible creative ability and tech potential. They have shown remarkable resilience and innovation, making waves in the music, film, and technology sectors. Against a backdrop of systemic challenges, they have improvised and created their own paths, achieving global recognition and success.

Our music industry, driven by talented young artists, has taken the world by storm. Nigerian musicians are celebrated internationally, bringing our rich cultural heritage to a global audience. In film, Nollywood has become one of the largest film industries in the world, showcasing the creativity and storytelling prowess of our filmmakers.

In the tech world, young Nigerian entrepreneurs and innovators are breaking barriers, developing solutions that address local and global challenges. They are at the forefront of Africa’s tech revolution, creating startups that attract international attention and investment.

Despite a lack of support and critical basic infrastructure from the government, these young Nigerians have read between the lines and made pathways where none existed. They have demonstrated that with determination, creativity, and resilience, it is possible to overcome even the most formidable obstacles.

Corruption remains a pervasive menace, infiltrating every level of government and public life. Government funds intended for development and public welfare are stolen at random, leading to the misallocation of resources and leaving critical sectors like education and healthcare grossly underfunded and inadequate.

Election corruption and malpractices further exacerbate these issues. Our political landscape is often marred by rigged elections, violence, and manipulation, allowing the most empty, incompetent and self-serving individuals to ascend to power. These so called leaders, more interested in personal gain than public service, fail to address the nation’s pressing needs, perpetuating a cycle of inefficiency, underdevelopment and stagnation.

Insecurity is another grave concern. Sponsored insecurity and ethnic and tribal conflicts create an unstable environment, making it difficult for communities to thrive. Terrorism, insurgency, and banditry disrupt daily life, causing widespread fear and displacement.

The state of our education and healthcare systems is dismal. Schools lack basic facilities, and the quality of education is alarmingly low, leaving many graduates ill-prepared for the job market. Healthcare facilities are equally deficient, plagued by inadequate funding, a shortage of medical professionals, and a lack of essential drugs and equipment. This results in poor health outcomes and high mortality rates, particularly among mothers and children.

Adding to these challenges is the menace of drug use among our unemployed and frustrated youth. With limited opportunities and a bleak outlook, many young Nigerians turn to drugs as a form of escape, leading to addiction and further societal problems. This vulnerability also exposes them to the horrors of trans-Sahel human and organ trafficking and modern slavery. Desperate for a better life, they fall prey to traffickers who exploit their situation, leading to unimaginable suffering and loss of dignity.

We have badly betrayed and disappointed our youth. Our failures as a government and as parents have turned some of them into terrorists, kidnappers, and armed robbers. These young individuals, disillusioned and desperate, resort to crime as a means of survival. In our failure to provide a nurturing environment, we have lost sight of how our actions and inactions have driven them to these extremes.

For the youth of Nigeria, the future may seem bleak unless they take their destinies into their own hands. High unemployment rates and a lack of opportunities drive many young Nigerians to seek prospects abroad, leading to a significant brain drain. However, the potential within this youthful population remains immense. With determination, innovation, and resilience, the youth can drive change and propel Nigeria towards a brighter future.

To the youth of Nigeria, we extend a big hearty congratulations. Your achievements are a testament to your ingenuity and tenacity. You have shown that you can rise above challenges and make a significant impact on the world stage.

Today, we celebrate you heartily. Your contributions to music, film, and technology not only bring pride to Nigeria but also inspire future generations. Continue to break boundaries, continue to innovate, and continue to lead the way. Your success is our nation’s success, and your future is bright.

Happy Children’s Day to all our incredible young Nigerians! Keep shining, keep pushing the limits, and know that the world is watching and celebrating your achievements.
