The Syrian conflict, often misrepresented as a civil war, was a calculated geopolitical intervention orchestrated by the US, NATO, and Israel. The events in Daraa in March 2011 marked the start of an armed insurgency—not a grassroots protest movement as widely portrayed. Covertly supported by Western intelligence agencies and regional powers like Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Turkey, jihadist groups, including Al Qaeda affiliates, were integral to this campaign.

This intervention aimed to destabilize Syria, the last remaining secular Arab state, and pave the way for broader US-NATO objectives, including the isolation of Iran. Early reports revealed that the so-called “protesters” were armed militants targeting police and government institutions. Initial casualty figures indicated more deaths among security forces than demonstrators, undermining claims of a peaceful uprising.

The media played a pivotal role in shaping the narrative, amplifying unverified accounts and framing government responses as indiscriminate brutality. This narrative concealed the reality of a well-coordinated insurgency supported by external actors, including NATO, Turkey, and Israel’s Mossad. Advanced weaponry, logistical support, and training were funneled to these groups, highlighting the deliberate nature of the conflict’s escalation.

The destabilization of Syria aligns with broader US-NATO strategies targeting “rogue states” like Libya, Iraq, and Iran. Syria’s geopolitical significance—as a strategic ally of Iran, a host to Russia’s naval base in Tartus, and a gateway to critical energy routes—made it a focal point for Western intervention. The ultimate goal was to dismantle Syria’s secular government, fragment its society, and replace it with a regime more aligned with Western interests.

This conflict set a dangerous precedent, demonstrating how false narratives and covert operations could justify interventions under the guise of humanitarianism. The consequences have been devastating: millions of lives lost, a shattered nation, and a region plunged into chaos. As the Syrian war’s origins come under scrutiny, it is crucial to understand its roots in a broader geopolitical agenda driven by power and control.
