In 1948, Mr. Ivor Cummings, a distinguished African-Caribbean national and a top official of the Colonial Office in London was scheduled to pay an official visit to Nigeria. Naturally, his first port of call was Lagos, then our capital. Accommodation was reserved for him at the Bristol Hotel, Martin Street, Lagos, then owned and managed by expatriates. Apparently, the hotel authorities thought, from the name Cummings, that he was a white Anglo-Saxon. But they were shocked when he presented himself at the reception to find that he was black. He was refused a room at the hotel on that ground.…

A total of N400bn was received in bribes by public officials within a period of one year, the National Bureau of Statistics said on Wednesday. The NBS stated this in its National Corruption Report, adding that 32.3 per cent of Nigerian adults who had contact with public officials between June 2015 and May 2016 had to pay bribes to the government workers. The report, a copy of which was obtained by our correspondent in Abuja, was prepared by the NBS in collaboration with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime. It said the majority of those who paid bribes…

Let me help the APC goons running their mouths about PDP inclusion of former Delta State Governor, Chief James Ibori in the National Convention Committee. Fact is Ibori was convicted in UK, he has served his punishment, and imprisonment of anyone should be reformatory and not a stigma with which someone’s existence must be terminated. Now to the APC; 1. The first National Chairman of the APC, Chief Bisi Akande was jailed in 1984 by a Tribunal duly set up by Buhari’s military regime for using funds belonging to the old Oyo State to fund his political party. Interestingly, Baba…

President Muhammadu Buhari has been away from our shores for over 100 days in a stretch treating an undisclosed and mysterious illness in far-away London. Since May 29th 2015 when he was sworn into office as President he has spent 350 of his over 740 days in power abroad treating the same strange ailment. Those that demand that he should “resume or resign” are being attacked and brutalised by security forces and agents of the state. The Buhari government is a murderous contraption that has no respect for human rights and civil liberties. Charly Boy Oputa, Deji Adeyanju, Ariyo Dare-…

I present to you the full lenght of Mr. Peter Obi’s Speech At The Renaissance, Ikeja… Sustaining Growth through Diversification of the Economy Since the beginning of the 21st century, the Nigerian economy has been on growth trajectory, growing on average above 5% until recently. This economic growth for over a decade led Nigeria to becoming Africa’s biggest economy with a Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of more than USD 500 billion. However in August 2016, following two consecutive quarters of negative growth, Nigeria went into economic recession, and now has been through six quarters of negative growth. The question to…

Col Achuzia recently published that ‘Biafra does not mean secession ‘. According to him ‘WE’ are proud Biafrans living in Nigeria. The Biafran agitation is an expression coming from perceived general frustrations of ‘some’ Igbos as a result of deliberate marginalizations & deprivations. However, the approach is wrong. Why? Igbos have more to lose in Biafra than being part of Nigeria. The economic losses from the 30 months civil war have been recovered and our people do not seem to know that that dominant progress angers the other federating units who hate the Igbos. Unfortunately, Igbos have not been able…

The business was hinged on PALM OIL, not crude oil, for the latter had not been discovered. IMPORTANT INFORMATION Before oil exploration…

The western ports – Lagos Ports Complex, Apapa and Tin Can Island ports – generate over 70 percent of NPA revenue, but that was the set out goal by those who held sway at various times to deliberately make eastern ports unattractive and economically unviable. The ongoing struggle on issues of concession and territorial claims by some powerful maritime operators connected to the Presidency is a clear example of why the eastern ports were deliberately neglected and made to look unviable. If indeed there was a concession agreement that all oil and gas cargoes should be brought to Warri, Onne…

So much has been said and is still being said about President Muhammadu Buhari’s illness, his absence and the law. Broadly, there are four provisions in our laws that apply to this situation and all of them taken together are clear as par what should happen despite the attempt by some public commentators to give the impression that there is a lacuna or a loophole that renders the applicability of the law as it is impossible or doubtful. Three of these provisions are in the Constitution (sections 144, 145 and 146(1)) and the other is in the Public Service Rules…

The next presidential and National Assembly elections will hold on February 16, 2019. Where ignorance is bliss, /’Tis folly to be wise.’” – Thomas Gray Ignorance blindfolds. Like stupidity, it is life denying and dangerous. Ignorance can lead to the way of perdition and destruction through “unwise” acts. A cultural production of ignorance with resultant timidity allows people to suffer and smile while the criminality and inhumanity against them go unchecked and unchallenged. The perpetrators of such evil cash in on this ignorance and cowardice to inflict endless pains on the victims who may even pay for more pains. To be ignorant is to be in a state of little or no sensibility;…

It is no longer news that unknown gunmen invaded St. Philip Catholic church, Ozubulu early morning of today, Sunday the 6th day of August, 2017, killing not less than 35 people and wounding more. This is certainly not the best of times for Nigeria. And most certainly not for the advocates of #OneNigeria as Tuesday’s “No Devolution Of Power” vote at the floor of the Senate appears to have finally given a very serious form of institutional credence to the assertion by the Nnamdi kanu led Biafran movement that the Nigeria state is unsalvageable. But beyond the rhetorics and verbal gymnastics, there are some wildly held opinions which the Senate vote has simply elevated to the status of fact. Here are some of them: It is not the Senate as an institution that doesn’t…

I am convinced that Femi Adesina has now finally lost his mind. In his latest essay he compared Buhari to David. What on earth is Davidic about Buhari? David was a Spirit-filled believer and a heroic and courageous child of God whilst Buhari is a son of perdition and a tyrannical servant of satan. Femi also said Buhari could have “cut off the heads” of his opponrnts, meaning he could have had them assasinated. Gosh. Poor Femi. He has just made a cardinal spiritual blunder the consequences of which I have no doubt that he will deeply regret. I…

PREAMBLE The persistence for the actualization of Biafra by the unruly Igbo of South-Eastern Nigeria has lately assumed another alarming twist which involved the forceful lockdown of activities and denial of other people’s right to free movement in the South-East by the rebel Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its overt and covert sponsors. This latest action and similar confrontational conducts which amount to a brutal encroachment on the rights of those termed as non-indigenous people residing and doing lawful businesses in those areas illegally demarcated and defined as Biafra by the Igbo, are downright unacceptable and shall no longer…

Former British Prime Minister, Tony Blair was in Nigeria few days ago. What has continued to dominate the air space, however, is the real motive behind the visit. Oblong Media has been reliably informed that the visit with selected persons from the northern part of Nigeria has a lot to do with the 2019 presidential election. According to our sources, the essence of the visit was to map out plans to wrestle power away from the Acting President of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo in 2019. Restructuring will ensure greater accountability. People are more likely to hold their state and local governments to account once those governments are no longer able to convincingly blame the central government for their shortcomings. I have spoken a few times over a long period of time about the need to restructure our federation in order to make it stronger. Our founding political leaders agreed on and erected a federal system of government. They believed, quite rightly in my view, that such a structure was the only guarantee of national cohesion, in view of our diversity, varying resource endowments, varying levels…

The Central Intelligence Agency was established to scuttle and derail potential challengers to America’s economic hegemony. Choking and paralysing most potential challengers result from subjecting these countries to endless social crisis, hardship, torture, fear, and psychological warfare. And confirming this strategy, former CIA Director of Plans, Richard Bissell, said, ”The CIA’s interface with the rest of the world needs to be better promoted through our friends in foreign governments….We need repression if we hope to divide these societies into owners and slaves. We need to put the people under continual duress and in a perpetual state of imbalance, so that…
