The South East / South South network on Tuesday demanded the immediate re-consideration of the South East Development Commission Bill (SEDC) for the sake equity in Nigeria.

The group in statement made available to our correspondent also commended the residents in the South-East and South-South States for observing “sit at home order” marking the 50 years anniversary of Biafra war in which over 3 million people were killed and $50 billion dollars worth property and investment were destroyed by Nigeria government.

The group noted that up till now the destroyed infrastructure in Igboland has not been rehabilitated by the Nigeria government but quickly set up agency to rebuild the North East which was destroyed by insurgency.

SESS network added that the rejection of the bill has once again revealed some groups penchant for continuous marginalisation of the South-East and South-South states of Nigeria despite the existence of a Constitution which promotes equity in the country.

The group appealed the Federal lawmakers from the south-east to lobby their colleague effectively to ensure that bill is passed when represented on the floor of both chamber.‎

According to the group, the continuous rejection of every opportunity to develop the South Eastern part of the country is no longer acceptable.

The group said, “There is a saying that what is good for the goose is also gander, if the National Assembly could pass North East Development Bill (NEDB) which was consumed by insurgency, ‎the consideration of South East Development Bill (SEDC) which was destroyed 50 years ago is necessary for the peaceful ‎Co-existence of South East in Nigeria.‎”

On the Biafran struggle, SESSNet urged the Federal Government to use the opportunity of the successful sit at home to take urgent steps to restructure Nigeria

Once again our country has displayed lackadaisical attitude towards the yearning NDIGBO.‎‎

Last week, the House of Representatives rejected a bill (South East Development Bill) which was meant to address the under development of Igbo land since attainment of independence of this country.‎

‎The passage of the bill would have eased the pains of the Igbo ethnic Nationality which lost not less than 3 million People and properties valued at over $50billion during the civil war.

The rejection of the bill once again revealed the intention of some people or some groups to treat ndIgbo as second class citizens in a country they have invested much.‎

It is also observed that‎ every opportunity to give Ndigbo leverage in Nigeria has been rejected by these groups in the country who believed Ndigbo must be punished “for daring to secede”..

What is good for the goose is also good for the gander, if the National Assembly could pass North East Development Bill (NEDB) which was consumed by insurgency, ‎the consideration of South East Development Bill (SEDC) which was destroyed 50 years ago is necessary for the peaceful ‎Co-existence of South East in Nigeria.

‎SESS network therefore warns that the continuous rejection of every opportunity to develop the South Eastern part of the country is no longer acceptable and demands the following:‎

-we demand that the bill must re-present in the House of Representatives for consideration or be presented for consideration on the floor of the Senate.

‎ ‎
-call for South-Eastern federal lawmakers symposium on SEDB‎ to synergize on how actualize the bill

– The Federal lawmakers from south east should also lobby their colleague effectively to ensure that the bill is passed when represented. ‎

-‎We also used this opportunity to applaud ndgibo in South East who observed “sit at home order’, it is an indication that Ndigbo is ready to take their destiny into their and this is a warning to Federal government who treats the Ndigbo issues with kid gloves.

SESSNet urged the Federal Government to use the opportunity of the successful sit at home to take urgent steps to restructure Nigeria.
