I WILL INTRODUCE POLICIES THAT WILL PROMOTE POSITIVE DEVELOPMENT – SENATOR SAMUEL ANYANWU. By Chudi Tims-Lewechi

Leadership is not about profit and loss calculation. Neither is it about being doctors and engineers, but rather about the sacrifice that we make in our lives every day for our society to bring about positive social change.

This, captures the mind of a frontline PDP governorship aspirant for 2019 and the current Senator representing Imo East Senatorial District (Owerri Zone) at the Nigerian Senate, Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu (Samdaddy), who has vowed to introduce policies and programmes that will promote positive development when elected as the governor of Imo State. This mandate is as contained in his governorship declaration policy document.

The Ikeduru born Senator said that he will lead a responsible and sensitive government if voted in as the next governor of the state. In his words “the only way for Imolites to feel the impact of good governance is by creating an environment that will foster harmonious co-existence, energize private enterprise and allow the people unfettered ownership of the means to wealth creation.”

According to the Chairman, Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions “In the course of my sojourn in politics, understanding the people, the challenges they face, the issues and expectations, it becomes clear to me that leadership was of the essence if a worthy future must be secured for the citizens. A future that would create equal opportunity for all, promote the welfare of the people, run a transparent administration for the benefit of all and uphold rule of law.” This statement of fact propelled his decision to run for Office of the Governor of Imo State in order to contribute his quota and wealth of experience gathered from his over 20 years of public service to the growth and development of Imo State.

It is noteworthy to observe here that the University of Port Harcourt trained political scientist is unarguably a “homeboy” and well grounded with grassroots realities having spent a greater part of his life in Imo State. While growing up as a boy child, he was opportuned to have a first-hand feel of the impulse, yearnings, problems and challenges of his people. No wonder soon after he was inaugurated as Chairman of Ikeduru Local Government Area (LGA), he went on to hit the ground rolling by constructing people oriented roads in his LGA. He did not stop at that, he also pursued initiatives that led to a positive social change in Ikeduru.

Fast forward to the recent time, Senator Anyanwu is not just an onlooker in national politics, he has made several positive impacts. He has continued to use his position as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to attract laudable projects to the people he represents in order to uplift their lives, bring communities together and foster peaceful co-existence. Aside from introducing people-oriented road projects all over Owerri Zone, he is widely perceived as the Commander-in-Chief of Empowerment. There is a popular slang in Igbo land that says “odogwu aburu guy name”. Undoubtedly, Senator Anyanwu has distinguished himself as an “odogwu” (a hero) because being called a hero in Igbo land isn’t just mere a “guy name” (nickname). You must rise to help your people against their common enemy.

Senator Anyanwu is helping his people with his humanitarian foundation known as S.O.M.E (So Others May Eat) to fight their greatest nightmare, poverty. Founded in 2010 with the sole aim of reducing extreme poverty and hunger by empowering his constituents with requisite skills to start up their small businesses. He does not stop at the skill acquisition training alone, he goes further to equip every trainee with a machine equipment and most times accompany this kind gesture with cash as a take-off grant to enable the fresh trainee to kick-start his/her small business.

Senator Anyanwu has through his S.O.M.E Foundation empowered more than 2000 people in different skills and social network programs thus bringing his foundation to national limelight. This has gone on to make his foundation’s mission to stand out, its goals clearly respected and its vision recognized. Today, his foundation is closely working with religious bodies towards improving the lives and living condition of his people. This has been guided by the principles of openness, transparency, integrity and inclusiveness.

Nevertheless, it is noteworthy to observe here that there are three categories of people in the world: people who chose to lead, people who chose follow and people who chose to do nothing and therefore must get out of the way to allow others the chance to do the job. Senator Anyanwu has proven to be a leader who chooses to lead Imo State as a Joshua of this generation to Canaan Land where people-oriented projects & policies, rule of law and egalitarianism will become the order of the day. He has no doubt performed creditably well with the little task given to him and I have no doubt that he is well prepared to superintend over the affairs of the state and consequently lead Imo to greatness. The reward for work well done as rightly put by Jonas Salk is the opportunity to do more. We must give him every necessary support to lead Imo State in 2019.
