Lesson Ihedioha’s Media Handlers and Supporters should Learn from His Channels TV Outing.

Mbutu, Aboh Mbaise born former lawmaker and Deputy Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, Hon Nkemakolam Chukwuemeka Ihedioha was a guest of the Sunrise Daily, a program of the Channels Television between the hours of 8am to 8:45am. His discussion was centered on Imo politics, governance and development amongst other sundry issues.

Ihedioha who represented Aboh Mbaise /Ngor Okpala federal constituency in the green chamber’s of the National Assembly for a period of 12 years displayed high sense of maturity, diplomacy and thoughtfulness in answering many critical questions thrown at him by the presenters. Most controversial questions which could have pinched him against his opponents were carefully and deliberately avoided by the 2019 Imo governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party. Those he couldn’t dodge, he applied diplomacy, some he delved into his area of strength to disarm the questionnaires.

Unlike his Media handlers (Social and conventional) and supporters whose only known approach of marketing their boss (Ihedioha) is by being combative, using all kinds of abusive, denigrating and insulting words to force Ihedioha’s candidature on the voters, especially reading their online messages.

The subtle intimidation is counterproductive. Coupled with lack of diplomacy, peace building and reconciliatory strategy to ensure that their choice candidate is sold to Imo people as the best ahead of 2019 Imo governorship race.

Majority of Ihedioha’s supporters from Mbaise nation, yes, we understand are emotional about pursuing their brother’s ambition, but should know that with them alone, Ihedioha will not make it to government House Owerri in 2019. He is aspiring to govern Imo State, not Mbaise Nation or Aboh Mbaise /Ngor Okpala federal constituency. Its therefore important they go into political evangelism to win support and trust from Imo voters across the 24 other LGAs in Imo State, outside Aboh Mbaise, Ahiazu Mbaise and Ezinihitte Mbaise Local government areas. They should be made to understand that if Ihedioha couldn’t win the 2015 Imo governorship election even as the Deputy Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives with all the privileges, sentiments and immunity accruable from his exalted office of as number six citizen of the Federal Republic of Nigeria , that of 2019 will not be a walk over for him. That doesn’t mean he will not win the election, if he works hard!

It should get into their subconscious mind that the electoral act that saw to the 2015 governorship election, that saw Ihedioha threatening the incumbent Governor Rochas Okorocha with votes leading to a supplementary election is not same as the electoral act that will superintend the 2019 general election. The election of 2019 will be counted and will count . It will reflect the wish and aspirantion of the voters.

Lastly, they should know that the free voting and alleged manipulation of votes in Mbaise Nation in the 2015 will be curtailed by the imposing presence of four (4) gubernatorial candidates of other political parties from Mbaise nation. It’s important that they are meant to understand that Dr Steve Nwoga, Deputy Governorship Candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) from Ahiazu Mbaise , Hon Tony Nwulu, Governorship candidate of the United Progressive Party (UPP) from Ezinihitte Mbaise , Chief Okey Ezeh, Governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) from Ahiazu Mbaise , among others will not fold their hands and allow Ihedioha and supporters overrun them in their respective LGAs.

The presence of Senator Ifeanyi Araraume, Senator Hope Uzodinma, Senator Samuel Anyanwu and H/E Ikedi Ohakim as candidates of various political parties, amongst others will make the 2019 Imo governorship a tough race.

We can’t forget the fact that many strong Mbaise sons and daughters, like Senator Chris Anyanwu, Senator Bright Nwanne, Chief Emma Ojinere, Sir Stanley Amuchie, Hon Nnanna Igbokwe, Hon Iyke Njoku, Hon Godfrey Dikeocha, Chief Austin Papa, etc, did not buy into the Ihedioha governorship project except there would be special intervention before the 2019 general election.

It is therefore my most revered opinion that my brothers and sisters working with Emeka Ihedioha should as a matter of responsibility, tactful, careful and purposefully tow the path of peace building, reconciliation, lobbying, engaging and maturity in marketing their choice candidate.

While I wish them well, I call for caution. Recall that Ihedioha’s media handlers and supporters applied same approach they are using now which they deployed against Senator Ifeanyi Araraume in 2015, and Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu in the build up to the 2019 Imo governorship election, it’s resultant effect was highly negative and had a collateral damage on their interest, a repeat of such strategy is to me suicidal.
