I read some of the comments and submissions of a majority of Nigerians, especially the youths in the social media, their utterances and actions, and shudder at the future of this country.
Where are we heading to from here?
A majority of our people, especially, the youths do not want to work. They do not want to put their hands into honest works and ploughing?.
A majority of Nigerians do not even understand the roles they are expected to play in the society. A majority of them are so ignorant that they do not realize, understand or appreciate their citizens advocacy rights .
To a significant number of our youths, their fastest route to wealth is Yahoo Yahoo or as Otimkpus to political misfits and looters.
Most of our youths have been so corrupted by these political ediabalis that all they do now is to spend endless times screaming supports for them based on nothingness and hoping that one day , the crumbs will get to them . What kind of generation is this in Nigeria? I am genuinely worried .
A 22 year old girl in Sudan started the revolution that toppled the dictator Omar Bashir. Here in Nigeria, a significant number of our youths are aligned behind looters /despots and daily praise them as commanders of empowerment and mob philanthropists?
How do we educate our people to understand that the real philanthropists and commanders of empowerment are the likes of Bill Gate, Cosmos Maduka, Dr Maduka of Umuchukwu etc . Men who used their private wealth to create jobs for the youths and truly empower them?
How do we educate them and help them to understand that a genuine Philanthropist selflessly and sacrificially gives back to the society from his sweat and honour. He does not rob Retired pensioners or the larger soceity to pay some of their misguided grand kids.
How do we educate our people, especially, the youths to realize that those political office holders who looted Billions from our common treasury and used hundreds of millions out of it to buy sienna car for them, or who dash Keke or okada or who dash monies to them at their wedding reception programs or child naming ceremonies are not philanthropists? They are robbers, who robbed Paul to pay Peter.
How do we educate them to understand that a governor who claimed to have used N120m public funds to build a structure that normally should not be more than N60m did not do them any favour? Rather, he scammed us all?
How do we convince them that hundreds of thousands of kilometers of roads and mega infrastructure projects worth trillions of dollars are taking place in UAE, Europe, US and other parts of the world daily without it being advertised or commissioned on Telly by the governments there?
How can we make them to realise that a governor or public office holder who delivers public projects with public funds is only doing his job as a good employee and not doing them any special favour that requires rolling out atilogwu dancers to celebrate?
How do we educate them on the basic tenets of democracy and good governance?
How do we educate them to realize that political office holders are their employees? Mere employees and not lords and emperors to be worshipped?
How do we educate them to realize that free and qualitative basic education, good roads , good health facilities, good infrastructure, good power and energy supply are their inalienable rights as tax payers, not a special freebie from Santa Claus?
How do we educate them to understand that being elected or appointed into any political offices is a rare privilege of trust given to one to serve and not to loot? It is a call to service and humility and not to lord it over others as an emperor?
How do we educate them to understand and appreciate the fact that one can actually serve in the public sector without looting or soiling his or her hands?
How do we teach them that it is their number one right to demand for accountability and transparency from elected and appointed public office holders?
How do we educate them to understand that a political office holder who is not accountable is a con man?
How do we educate them to appreciate the facts the every public office holder is duty bound to account transparently for his stewardship and actions at all times, even to his enemies and haters who are members of the larger society?
How do we educate them to understand that a political office holder or governor who do not keep adequate records and publicly publish, weekly , monthly , quarterly and annual records (that is accessible to all )of how much income that came into the public treasury and how much that was spend is a ROGUE OR SCAM ARTIST?
How do we educate them to realize that It is their rights to know how every kobo that comes into the public coffers are generated and spent? .
How do we educate them to realize that political leaders are not gods or emperors. But chief servants?
How do we help them to understand that lack of material goods does not mean poverty of the mind or that the politicians looted the treasury does not mean that their brains were looted too?
How do we educate them to note that it is not every citizens advocacy rights campaigner or apostles of good governance that seek for political patronages?
How do we educate them to understand and appreciate the fact that it is the state that needs and lobbies for the services of quality, honest and competent hands and not the other way round?
How do we educate them to understand and appreciate the fact that you don’t become a dollar billionaire like Chinedu Echerue or Mark Zuckerberg by occupying political office or being an otimkpu to politicians?
How do we help them to understand that not every excellent pen or brain is available for cheap otimkpu hire ?
How do we help them to realize that some of those who genuinely fight for good governance and who have been passionately conscientious/consistent at this even to their personal risks , selflessly do this to help recover and secure their future?
God please help us to open their minds / brains and force that deep and liberating knowledge into them in Jesus name amen
