Hon. Obi Aguocha Calls for Nnamdi Kanu’s Release

In a significant move aimed at advocating for the rights of Nigerian citizens, Hon. Obi Aguocha-MHR, representing the Ikwuano Umuahia Federal Constituency, has issued a compelling media release concerning the detention of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Released on Friday, April 12, 2024, at 9:00 PM, the media release titled “Re: Nnamdi Kanu, Sowore, Igboho, and Emefiele” discusses the legal status of individuals accused by the government of various alleged offenses.

Aguocha highlights the judiciary’s role in upholding the rights of citizens, citing the cases of Omoyele Sowore and Sunday Igboho, who have been granted freedom due to judicial determinations in defense of their rights.

Similarly, the media release acknowledges the judiciary’s decision to grant bail to Mr. Emefiele, with a N50M bail bond, underscoring the importance of respecting constitutional rights.

However, Aguocha raises pertinent questions regarding Nnamdi Kanu’s continued detention, emphasizing his status as a citizen and his constitutional right to be granted bail. The release questions whether there is a disparity in the treatment of citizens from different regions, particularly those from the South East zone.

In a direct appeal to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, HE Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, Aguocha urges him to utilize his influential position to ensure the unconditional and immediate release of Nnamdi Kanu. The appeal is framed as a gesture of goodwill towards supporting the peaceful development of the South East region and the welfare of Igbo people.

The media release concludes with a note of gratitude to President Tinubu for the anticipated consideration and acquiescence to the appeal.

Hon. Obi Aguocha’s decisive stance on this issue underscores the importance of upholding the principles of justice and fairness in Nigeria’s legal system, particularly concerning the rights of all citizens, irrespective of their affiliations or regions of origin.
