Dear Imo Lawmakers,
Dear Owerri Zone representatives in the Senate and Federal House of reps,
Dear Governor Hope Uzodimma,
Dear Commissioner for Works,
The silence is deafening. The neglect is damning.
While the Imo State House of Assembly recently passed a unanimous motion directing the Ministry of Works to remobilize contractors to the abandoned Awo-Omamma–Okwudor road, we, the people of Ihiagwa, Nekede, Obinze, and surrounding communities, are left asking one urgent question:
Why can’t the same be done for the completely abandoned Nekede–Ihiagwa–Obinze road?
WHERE ARE OUR REPRESENTATIVES?
Where is the member representing Owerri West in the Imo State House of Assembly?
Where is our Senator?
Where is our Federal Representative?
Why are they watching in silence as this critical road crumbles, destroying lives, livelihoods, and local businesses?
THIS ROAD IS A LIFELINE, NOW A DEATH TRAP
The Nekede–Ihiagwa–Obinze road isn’t just any road. It connects:
Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) Ihiagwa
Federal Polytechnic Nekede
Nigerian police training college Nekede/Ihiagwa
The Nigerian Army Barracks at Obinze
Thousands of homes, businesses, investments, churches, and farms
The fall out from the relocated Ekeonuwa and New Market commercial activity
This axis is a powerhouse of education, commerce, innovation, and national security, yet today, it is reduced to abandoned roadworks, potholes, erosion gullies, broken vehicles, and anguish.
NJABA GOT ACTION. WHY IS OWERRI WEST ABANDONED?
When Njaba cried out, their representative, Hon. Ozioma Worship Benneth Ebonine, acted swiftly and spoke boldly.
He moved a motion.
He rallied his colleagues.
He demanded action.
What has our own representative done?
Silence is complicity. Inaction is betrayal.
