Chief Ayo Adebanjo, a staunch follower of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, has been in the forefront of agitation for restructuring of the country. The Afenifere chieftain warns that the 2019 general election may not hold if the country is not restructured. He bared his mind on other burning national issues. Excerpts: On arrival from his medical vacation, President Muhammadu Buhari declared that the country’s unity is not negotiable, what is your take on that? We have told him that that is not tenable. He is the President and that is the modest he can say. Olusegun Obasanjo was there…

1. As a Mission Statement, the NCEF is committed to the Unity of Nigeria and the duty of the Leadership of the Nation to ensure that this Unity is not sacrificed on the altar of sectarian interests and biases. 2. In its exercise of the Biblical “Issachar Mandate,” the National Christian Elders Forum (NCEF) is purposed to draw national attention, as Senior Citizens, to the issues as they stand in Nigeria at present. The NCEF Press Release of July 2017, titled Correct Assessment of Situation in Nigeria, presently under contention by some Muslim groups, was sent as “non-violent communication” (NVC)…

Over one hundred Civil Society organisations in Nigeria have called on the Federal Government of Nigeria to declare a state of emergency in Imo State following the continued disobedience of the state government to Court orders, even as they condemned the deployment of the Military to the South-Eastern part of Nigeria through the Operation Python Dance 11. Rising from a meeting at the Secretariat of the Nigerian Bar Association, Owerri, Saturday, held to review what they described as human rights emergency in the state, the groups expressed regrets over the gross abuse of rule of law by the government of…

Hon. Having observed and noticed with regret that most of our past and present political office holders have the gift of the garb unrivalled in the game of casting hopes of the populace in gold, while a negligible number show and exhibit little capacity of filliping the hopes and aspirations of the people. They are nothing more than what “Plato described as canals of looters, Machiavelli’s and epicureans, comfortable in debauchery as against service. It has been years of unprecedented ineptitude, deceit, poor representation and treasury looting, reducing imo to near failed state; after placing our implicit faith and trust on them;…

President Mohammadu Buhari is the democratically elected president of the federal Republic of Nigeria. He swore to defend and uphold the sanctity of the constitution of the country. The question here is, is the president truly protecting and upholding the dictates and contents of the constitution? The answer is capital NO. Is the president treating the entire country as his constituency? the answer is NO. Is the president protecting the lives and property of all Nigerians living in all parts of the country? the answer is NO. Has the president been fair to all the component units of the country…

Greetings, your Excellencies -the governors of the land of the Rising Sun. It is with a heart burdened with sorrow that I write you today to register my grave displeasure over your criminal complicity in the woes of the people you purport to preside over. With your permissions, your Excellencies, I will like to start this piece with questions which have dug a very deep hole in my heart for a very long time and the questions are: Whose interests are you representing as governors? Where does your loyalty lie? Why does it seem like your dominant default instinct is…

PREAMBLE There is no need for a re – hash of Nigeria’s history —everyone is aware of the slow descent of the country since it’s inception. Those not aware of it’s history are living witnesses to it’s current decadent state, making it a hopeless and despairing environment for the generality of the citizens. We are now at a crossroad, either to continue in this present situation, voting every four years and possibly become extinct in a few years time OR Take our Destiny in our hands and go another direction, the Direction of YORUBA AUTONOMY. It has become worrisomely worrisome and highly alarming over the rate at which some youths of our time has turned social media, especially Facebook,a war zone of intellectual display in an amateurishly manner, washing our dirty undies in public, publicly without a second thought of the aftermath of our actions and inactions in this cyberspace that has no hiding place nor does it keep secret to our moral and immoral display of knowledge and ignorance. Some youths now derive joy in media mortal combat for whichever reason or reasons that is/are best known to them but we forget so easily that There…

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has on Sunday, called on President Muhamamdu Buhari, to look into the re-organisation of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, in the interest of peace, unity, and good governance in the country. Recall, that the latest NNPC shake-up saw the Northerners appointed into strategic positions of the Corporation, without any single Easterner in a management position. This was stated in a statement signed by the President General of the pan-Igbo group, John Nnia Nwodo, which was made available to Post-Nigeria. The Ohanaeze boss noted that: “This brazen disregard, marginalisation, and non-compliance with the federal character provisions in…

The failings of south east governors and lack of synergy with their respective national assembly members is the bane of NDI IGBO. Federal roads in the south east are in deplorable conditions and the worst in Nigeria; this is the direct consequence of lack of Syngery between south east governors and their respective members of National assembly. National assembly members of south east stock from 1999 till date must be held responsible for the deplorable conditions of federal roads in the south east for not ensuring that these roads are captured in the budget and actually repaired, maintained, reconstructed and…

It is the joint position of the leaderships of Int’l Society for Civil Liberties & the Rule of Law (Intersociety) and the Southeast Based Coalition of Human Rights Organizations (SBCHROs) that the real motive behind the recent order by the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Kpotum Idris for deployment of thousands of armed police personnel to the Southeast, especially Anambra State; is nothing short of extortion or official daylight armed robbery on Southeast roads. The deployment is also designed to continue to intimidate and psychologically overrun the entire People of the Southeast and the South-south geopolitical zones of Nigeria; formerly…

For the second time in less than two weeks, the governors of the SS and SE met last sunday for another round of meetings to discuss devolution of power and proper restructuring of Nigeria. Since then, some feudal elements from the core Hausa/Fulani North have developed epilepsy of the heart. They are so worried that one clown, Tukur Danmuazu, asked a silly question that clearly betrayed the warped mindset of the ordinary Hausa/Fulani oligarch… He asked why the SS people should give away one master (the north) to pick another master, the SE? He asked what the landlocked SE can…

A landmark civil damages and human rights lawsuit has been filed in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia against sixteen Nigerian officials for their direct or indirect complicity and in the extrajudicial killings or torture of Igbos who were protesting marginalization based on their ethnicity, political viewpoint or religion. Allegations of ethnic and religious bias in appointments into top management positions in the nation’s cash cow, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, yesterday, drew the ire of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, the Pan-Niger Delta Forum, PANDEF, and other opinion moulders in the South, who described it as a threat to national unity. While Afenifere described it as an act of impunity, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the apex Igbo socio-cultural group, raged that President Muhammadu Buhari was not walking his talk on the plea for national cohesion. The stance of Ohanaeze was endorsed by the South East Senate caucus. Two rival…

The Hausa-Fulani has no ideals, no ambitions save such as sensual in character. He is a fatalist, spendthrift and a gambler. On 11th November 2015, the Nigerian Army issued a violent threat against protesting pro Biafra activists and their leaders in the Southeast and the South-south zones of the country. The Army also labeled peaceful assemblies especially those organized by pro Biafra activists as “treason and insurrection”. On 16th November 2015, the Nigerian Military through the Chief of Defense Staff issued a further violent threat and ordered violent crackdowns including shoot-at-sight against unarmed and defenseless pro Biafra protesters in Southeast and South-south Nigeria. The violent threat was immediately followed and backed by a presidential statement. The peaceful and nonviolent street protests…

The importance of the media in any cause can never be over-emphasized. More often than not, the media, when fully exploited by an evil genius, can make a victim of oppression seem like the perpetrator while the real perpetrator is left looking as though he is the real victim. Even in war, propaganda which is spread through the media, has the capacity to make a weaker side seem like an invincible army thereby bringing down the morale of the other army. And how can you win a war with soldiers who believe their opponents are invulnerable?? Such is the degree…

Of Quislings, Saboteurs and the Biafran Agitation: Lessons from History. By Arthur Agwuncha Nwankwo.
In Igbo folklore, a story is told of a certain Udekwe Uyadi who was brutally slaughtered by his people during an inter-communal war with their neighbouring community. His road to the grave was foretold by the Chief Priest of Idemmili. Ani-Ukwu was a very large parcel of land between the two communities. Over the years, control and ownership of this parcel of land had always spurned bitter skirmishes between Obodo-Ani and Odumagu. Obodo-ani’s claim to that land was anchored on the fact that their forebears were buried there and by tradition, you cannot bury any person in a land not…

California is the 6th largest economy in the world. It’s economy is larger than that of France or Brazil. The little problem is that California is not a country. It is a State in the United States of America. It has little offshore oil, yet its economy is larger than States in the US that are famous for their oil reserves, like Texas. California generates much of its revenue from non-oil products. It found a way to absorb and domesticate much of the intellectual output from its premier university, Stanford University, into saleable products within its economy. As a matter…

Economic growth and development is not achieved by mere talk-shops and symposia. It takes a process well described by Chief Obafemi Awolowo as “the burning of midnight candle engaging in a thinking exercise, while other men snore their lives away or gallivant with women”. Ohakim’s men were hosting allnight parties every Friday for four years. Following the Supreme Court decision which ruled finaly once and for all in favour of the Senator Makarafi group, many believed that it would restore relative peace and tranquility to the party. It’s not alarmist. Crisis is looming in Igboland. The sore has been allowed to fester, for too long. Pus has accumulated. Massage and warm compresses won’t do now. A surgical knife must go in. The government must act decisively, one way or the other. Prevarication can lead to a costly gangrin. The wound must be drained and cleaned, so that it can heal. The wound dressing must involve comprehensive political engagement of the southeast, and a restructuring of the federation. We are on a slippery slope. Nnamdi Kanu was granted bail by a court. He is being tried for offences…
