The British Government has again said it does not support the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, or any other secessionist group in Nigeria. December 18, 2017 The Imo Peoples Action for Democracy (IPAD) wishes to inform the world that Imo State has unfortunately become a fascist state where freedom of expression and assembly is no longer guaranteed. We say this because of the ugly incident that happened this morning where the Imo State government used the police to brutally attack peaceful protesters. We peacefully commenced our protest this morning from Wethral Road Roundabout in Owerri, Imo State, and were accosted by heavily armed policemen who demanded we stop because the commissioner of police did not approve the rally. We insisted that we must…

If Nigeria restructured into provinces – 1) Northern Province 2) Middle Belt Province 3) Oduduwa Province 4) Eastern Province 5) Niger Delta Province (Atlantic) Then Central Government at FCT. Here are 9 positive things that could happen within 5 years (primarily due to inter-province competition) 1. The first province to experience economic explosion would obviously be the Western Province. The Oduduwa Master plan will be revealed. There would be trans-regional 4g internet fiber connection/rail/subways/highways/power grids etc. Yoruba will become the 2nd official language. They are relatively united. They have oil. They own academia. They have mega corporations. The WP would…

Hon. Rotimi Amaechi, the Minister of Transportation, has expressed worries that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) may oust the Muhammadu Buhari-led All Progress Congress (APC) government from power in 2019. Amaechi said unless relentless prayers are offered to God ahead of the next general elections, the APC may lose its grip on power at the poll. “If we (APC) don’t pray, 2019 will be very far from us. If we don’t win 2019, it would be your fault, not anybody else. We go to God because he answers. We pray, and then go home and work,” the minister said in…

One billion dollars is about N365 billion, that is a whopping N1 billion everyday of one year. Is it world war 3? You see, boko haram has become quite a lucrative political and economic venture for the workers of change. In 2015 presidential elections, boko haram was a lethal weapon in their political arsenal and after assuming power, it has remained a sumpuous bait for pacification of the masses: each time the country is in a plight, if orphan loots are not discovered, boko haram will be defeated or Shekau’s flag and quran will be captured or chibok girls will…

The Imo Peoples Action for Democracy (IPAD) has noted with dismay the plot by the Imo State government to use the Imo state command of the Nigerian police to scuttle our peaceful rally scheduled to commence on the 18th of December 2017 in Owerri. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has noted the feverish moves by the All Progressive Congress (APC) to create disaffection among our members, distract our great party, and divert the attention of Nigerians from the colossal failure of its government. Having woefully failed to stop the PDP elective National Convention, a desperate APC has again failed in another bid to plant seeds of discord within the ranks of our members in the Southwest, particularly on issues relating to the outcome of our hugely successful National Convention. The people of the South West have, however, seen through the antics of the APC…

. Nigeria’s major opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, last weekend elected a new set of leaders who will run the affairs of the party for the next four years. The new party officials are mostly people with experience in local and state politics. These are their profiles: Uche Secondus (National Chairman) Mr. Secondus has been in politics for 39 years He joined politics in 1978 during the Second Republic as the youth leader, in Rivers, for the now-defunct National Party of Nigeria, NPN. He later became the state publicity secretary of another national party, the National Republican Convention,…

There were revelations yesterday on why former Senate President, Senator David Mark, was arrested and quizzed by the Economic and Financial Crimes commission (EFCC). A source in Mark’s camp told our correspondent that the EFCC wanted the former Senate President to account for the campaign cash sent to Benue State by the campaign team of former President Goodluck Jonathan in the build-up to the 2015 presidential election. But the source said that EFCC was merely chasing shadows because Mark was never a part of ex-President Jonathan’s campaign team. “EFCC is chasing shadows, all the allegations border on sheer politics because…

Politics is the only process to national development starting from school and if you stay out of it, you are far away from the reality that leads to development. The cost of garri is determined by politics, the school fees, the motor parts and even your salaries are all determined by what happens in politics. When the wrong people are in power and the right people are protesting, analysing, criticising and complaining, the status quo remains the same until those right people get involved. Anyone who feels too pure or clean to get involved in the game of politics, he…

As I lay on my bed in the early hours of today, the tears continued to pour steadily and uncontrollably. From the side of my eyes they found their way into my ears. I’d use my hands to wipe them, and they’d start pouring again. This has never happened to me. What is the matter? The more I tried to check what was happening to me, the more the tears kept pouring. Maybe I brought this upon myself. Who sent me to Jane Akwani’s Facebook wall to read her one-sentence analysis of each of Buhari’s ministers? What took me to…

2017 offered a ray of hope for Nigeria as the country exited a recession. However, the feeling remains that Nigeria failed to make good use of the opportunity presented by the economic recession. Our economy remains non-diversified and heavily reliant on oil to all intents, Nigeria has wasted the crisis. In 2017, the Buhari Administration had a chance, with its second full year budget, to effect a change the budgeting process, and break a cycle which has kept the economy in the doldrums for a very long time. This did not happen, and with 2018, politicking is certain to take…

The Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose has described the decision to withdraw $1 billion from the Excess Crude Account to fight Boko Haram insurgency as a means by the All Progressives Congress, APC-led federal government to fund President Muhammadu Buhari’s re-election in 2019. “For posterity sake, I wish to place it on record that I was not among the governors who approved the withdrawal of almost half of our savings in the Excess Crude Account, which belongs to the three tiers of government to fight an already defeated insurgency,” he declared. The All Progressives Congress should address the growing disaffection among its members instead of attacking the Peoples Democratic Party, writes Shola Oyeyipo Since the advent of the All Progressives Congress (APC) national leadership under President Muhammadu Buhari, the government has had relative peace because the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was unable to give the government the kind of fight it got from the APC while it was in opposition. The reasons are not far-fetched. While most PDP members who held one public office or the other in the last administration are facing corruption allegations and charges, the leadership crisis…

The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, yesterday declared that Nigerian roads were not as bad as many people were claiming. The Minister said these in his keynote address at the United Nations-sponsored capacity building programme for the Federal Road Safety Corps. But for this day, Dr. Alex Ifeanyichukwu Ekwueme would have become the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The day was Thursday, August 13 1998. The setting was a meeting of the nascent People’s Democratic Party, PDP, just metamorphosed from the activist G-34 in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city. The agenda was to decide on the policy of the emergent party, especially on power-sharing and rotation of the presidency. The buildup long started with Dr. Nelson Mandela of South Africa’s second visit to Nigeria to meet with Gen. Abacha, after his 1995 release from prison. He was here to advise…

Nigeria is again in the throes of the annual rituals of national strikes by workers in public universities. As of now, the non-academic staffs have locked up the classrooms in almost all Federal universities. The yuletide session is not allowing many Nigerians to realise that like the harmattan haze, the strike session is with us. The culprit, according to the workers, is the Federal Government which has reneged on earlier agreements on staff welfare. After decades of continuous and almost yearly strikes, the Nigerian university system is now poorly rated among leading universities in the world. Yet there was a…

Until Saturday December 9, 2017, the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) had a huge opportunity of deposing the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) in the 2019 Presidential elections. The APC government at the centre in Abuja, and even APC administrations in several states such as Imo, Jigawa, Osun, Oyo, Benue, Plateau, Nasarrawa, Kaduna and other places have dissipated significant goodwill from voters since 2015. In Imo state, the state government of Rochas Okorocha is now more-or-less a joke; Nasir El-Rufai’s administration in Kaduna has chosen to oppress significant portions of his state’s electorate; I’m told the governor of Jigawa appears…

I have said it before and it bears repeating now, the day Ndigbo and the Yoruba decide to bury the very destructive but senseless rivalry between them and forge a common front on issues of common interest, that is the day the #TheChildrenOfTheSouth and indeed the whole of Nigeria will experience a new dawn. On January 11, 2018, sons and daughters of Igbo and Yoruba extractions from all walks of life would gather in Enugu as one people from the two divides of the Niger to not only celebrate their age long but greatly ignored brotherhood which historians have recently traced to a common ancestry, and symbolized by the rare acts of bravery and comradeship by the late Generel Aguiyi Ironsi, Nigeria’s former Head-of-State and his friend and former governor of former southwest region, late Col Adekunle Fajuyi, when both men were mowed down in cold blood in a counter coup by some disgruntled…

The days of acrimony should be over, there is so much to give when the Igbo and Yoruba ethnic nationalities put aside the extraneous wedge between them. It is no longer news that the change mantra is a fraudulent transaction gone sour. Everywhere in Nigeria, people are yearning for a new direction. An immediate change to the evil change that has destroyed the foundation of the country. There is no single geo-political zone that is enjoying the dividends of good governance. Not even the President’s zone. Governance has taken the back seat while unbridled looting, blame trade, insecurity, fuel scarcity, unprecedented hunger, excruciating poverty, deadly division, collapsed infrastructure and poor education have become sad advertisement for the incumbent administration. Sadly, the APC Federal Government is doing nothing…

No one conversant with the history of Nigeria in the I950s and 1960’s will miss the overwhelming impact of Dr M.I. Okpara on the nation. After all by 1964 he was fully in charge of the fastest growing and industrialising economy in the world- the Eastern Nigerian economy. Nothing illustrates the warped sense of history and the complete abandonment of the values of merit and excellence in our national affairs as this wilful omission. And now to the review. The life of Dr Michael Okpara will make a fascinating and historical story anytime. The surprise for me is that it…

Former Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha has hailed the emergence of the National Executives of the Peoples Democratic Party, led by Prince Uche Secondus and members of National Executive at the just concluded Elective National Convention of the Peoples Democratic Party held, weekend in Abuja. In this no-hold-barred interview at his residence in Owerri on Sunday 26 November, 2017, Chief Barr. Willie Amadi, former Zonal Vice Chairman of Imo State PDP and former Special Adviser to former Governor Ikedi Ohakim on Sanitation and Transport, makes hair-raising revelations about politics in Nigeria and Imo State as he clocks 55 years. He concludes that Nigerians have been misled by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), and that his party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has learnt its lessons and is poised for a comeback that will unseat APC at federal and state levels come 2019. Excerpts. Q –…

The Conference of Nigeria Political Parties, CNPP, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to, without further delay, sack everyone involved in the recall and reinstatement of former Chairman of the Presidential Taskforce on Pension Reforms, Abdulrasheed Maina. The CNPP said this rising from its consultative meeting with representatives of civil society groups drawn from the six geo-political zones of the country in Abuja on Tuesday. It issued a 14-day ultimatum to the Federal Government to order all its officials named in the scandalous reinstatement of fugitive Maina to the federal civil service to immediately step aside for proper probe of…

Alhaji Sule Lamido said this while…

The Southeast Caucus in the Senate has reacted to the Amnesty International, AI, report, which painted a very chilling picture of the brutal killing of about 150 defenceless members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, allegedly by the Nigerian military, urging the Federal Government to immediately constitute a judicial panel of inquiry to investigate the alleged killing of the peaceful protesters. The Nigerian Army had faulted the claims by AI that its men killed over 150 pro-Biafran protesters, accusing the human rights organization of championing a campaign of calumny against Nigeria’s military, especially the Army But in a statement…

(Being the Contextual Interpretation of some key terminologies in the raging debate over the inevitable Reconfiguration of the broken down Federation of Nigeria, issued by the LNC July 15, 2016). 1) RESTRUCTURING. “Restructuring”, as being canvassed in Nigeria, simply means a return to the Federal basis of Nigeria which was destroyed since 1966 by the abrogation of the 5 Constitutions that defined the Federation of Nigeria.(Four Regional and one Federal), thereby restoring the hijacked Sovereignty of the erstwhile Federating Units each of which also reworks its internal Constitutional Structures ahead of the consensual Reconstitution of the broken down Federation of…

Thursday last week, former Lagos State governor and the self-proclaimed national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu, claimed that former President Goodluck Jonathan won a gold medal in corruption. Tinubu made the remark at the Banquet Hall of the State House while delivering the keynote address at the launch of a book titled, ‘Making Steady Sustainable Progress for Nigeria’s Peace and Prosperity,’ a mid-term scorecard of this administration, authored by the trio of Femi Adesina, Garba Shehu and Laolu Akande, the media aides in the presidency. Last week President Muhammadu Buhari( PMB) visited the South East for the first time since he became President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria two and half years ago. Was he on a genuine state visit or was he on a campaign mission? Some people believe he was on a campaign mission to Anambra state to support the gubernatorial ambition of his APC party flag-bearer, Mr Tony Nwoye. Such people believe that the visit to EBONYI State was an after thought, a camouflage. To buttress their view point, they remarked that if a presidential visit was actually planned for EBONYI…

The Senate has described as herculean the investigation of the sacked Chairman of Presidential Task force on Pensions Reforms, Alhaji Abdulrasheed Maina, disclosing that over 222 houses recovered by the EFCC have been allegedly shared by the EFCC officials. Raising through order 42 and 43, Senator Emmanuel Paulker, Chairman of Federal establishment pointed that the Committee which was set up barely a month now ran into trouble in the course of investigating the embattled Pension Task-force chairman. He further explained that the combined team of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) allegedly recovered…

For millions of Zimbabweans, the 21st day of November will forever remain a historic day for that was the day what book-makers had thought impossible happened in the Southern African country as the strong man of Zimbabwean politics; President Robert Mugabe, was forced to step down as President after 37 years in power. Worthy of note here is that Mugabe was not forced to resign by the common Zimbabweans protesting on the street or the activities of Morgan Tsvangarai-led main opposition party, the Movement for Democratic Change. He was forced out of power by his own ZANU PF party, his…

The North takes the position of National Secretary. The party will now have two Deputy National Chairman, one for the North and one for the South. Other positions zoned to the South include…

After Nigeria was dragged to the brink of the abyss by two military coups in 1966, its military leaders met to try to bring the country back from the brink. The meeting evolved into perhaps the best documented constitutional debate of all time which touched upon fundamental concepts regarding the balance of power between the central government and federating regions in a federation and professional soldiers’ outlook to military coups and seniority. It was a potential breakthrough occasion. Between January 5th and 7th 1967, the memembers of that SMC. Following a second bloody army coup in July 1966, the mbers…

Dr Alex Ekwueme occupied a unique space in Nigerian history. As the first elected Vice-President, Ekwueme was the face Nigeria advertised to the world that indeed the Igbos were back into the mainstream of Nigerian politics after the gruesome Civil War that ended in 1970. After that war, he made more money and decided to show the way to other Igbos who had come into wealth. By the time he was made the Vice-President to Alhaji Shehu Shagari, his philanthropy was well known. He single-handedly built the vocational centre, in Oko, his home town which has now been turned into…

Nigerians have never shown such level of patience and tolerance towards any of their past leaders for his record and strange policies as that shown to their current leader, Muhammadu Buhari – a former military dictator now self-confessed democrat who said he came to fight corruption. Buhari, 75, is being plagued with failures across every single sector in the economy, the like as has never been seen before. Less than a year into office, the economy plummeted into recession, an economy which had till then grown at an average rate of 7% in previous years (2011-2014). The nation’s currency lost…

I have seen all the attacks against Uche Secondus in his bid to become the next elected PDP Chairman. I accept the genuine agitation of those who feel it is the turn of Southwest Geopolitical zone to produce the next National Chairman of the party, having not occupied the office before. That seems plausible in the PDP and Nigerian system where zoning is a big issue. Surprisingly however majority of the attacks against the Uche Secondus campaign for PDP National Chairmanship have come from the Pro-Sherrif group who lost their grip and stranglehold on the PDP by virtue of a…

The People’s Democratic Party, Imo State, is enjoying it’s reformation and overhauling process, with the state Chairman, Barr. Charles Chukwudi Ezekwem, anchoring the ship. Witchcraft needs to be refined and made more relevant to our daily lives like flying to avoid those hectic traffic jams. As it is in Nigeria, it is still practiced in a very crude form. Can you beat this bizarre story? I had engaged a friend on the topic of witchcraft and the evils they did to us growing up in the village then. He told me he never believed in witchcraft until i told him those stories and that someone he knew had reported this to him earlier: It’s a family of 7, parents inclusive, but the head of…

APC tried to use President Buhari’s influence to win election. It all manifested when they redeployed Obiano’s security details days before his election. Thank God for great Nigerians who condemned the act and Mr President who ordered that his security details including his ADC be restored to him. They wanted to lay Obiano ambush in his own election. That was an unsuccessful democratic electoral coup. They deployed money, the governors donated Billions to Nwoye, state by state. Most of them are owing salaries, pensioners are being given bounced cheques for months. What a country! APC deployed federal might through security…

©️ *Chinedu Agu* If APC had won, the traditional institutions in Anambra State would have been turned into a laughing stock. More so, Obi of Onitsha, that fine Gentleman, would be dethroned by the Government of the day and replaced with a Bootlicking Traditional Ruler. Eze Alfred Achebe would go to Court and obtain a judgment for his reinstatement, but they would disregard, scorn and despise it. Ask any Imolite. Anyone asked the impact of Governor Obiano’s victory in the November 18 gubernatorial ballot in Anambra State could answer with a single word: Crushing. He won in all of the 21 local government areas of the state. His closest rivals came up in dismal second, third and fourth places. The combined total of the votes garnered by the rest of the 33 candidates managed to hit the hundreds. Significantly, ex-Governor Peter Obi, the godfather of PDP candidate Oseloka Obaze lost in his Anaocha local government area. Mr. Obaze himself lost in his Ogbaru local government area. His running mate, Mrs.…

The leadership of APC Youths Renaissance deeply regrets the abysmal performance of our party in the just concluded Anambra State Governorship election despite all the assurances given to leaders and members of the party by Tony Nwoye and the Southeast leaders of the party. Before the election, all necessary logistics were given to the leaders of the party in the zone to deliver victory to APC, but it looked as if such logistics were diverted as it did not get to the intended people in the region. How on earth can anyone explain the rational behind the 21/21 victory of…

The Fulani in Nigeria have said they will not accept cattle ranching because the country’s geographical location was not suitable for it. * It’s caused by strangers fuelled by politicians, religious leaders – Miyetti Allah Besides, the Fulani said the species of cows they had, as subsistence livestock farmers, were not good for ranching in the country, saying they could only be confined to ranching if their livestock were replaced with breeds suitable for it. This was even as they said the anti-open grazing laws being established by state governments would die a natural death like ‘political sharia law’ in…

Some people said imposition cost PDP in Anambra State but I laughed. How? How can? PDP has not won APGA since it relinquished power to it between 2003-2005 at the tribunals to get back at Chris Ngige. In the last election, no person fielded by APC or PDP would have made a difference. The reason is that those who failed to get the ticket would either sit bye and watch or connive, compromise or make a deal with APGA. Fact is every party gives ticket to whom they wish. They may narrow their choice down to 3 candidates, but a…

If you know Anambra very well, you will understand that no candidate produced by either APC or PDP would have defeated Governor Willy Obiano. Dr Chris Ngige saw this after two serial defeats to APGA and quietly dodged this time around. PDP had always won in Anambra when they did and in National Assembly elections by the PDP Federal might and not by popular will of the people. That is why even many years after elections are won for the legislative houses, there remain a constant battle as to whose list actually produced the authentic flag-bearer. More often, it has…

Obiano wins the Anambra Elections. Winning in all the local governments. As I wrote and submitted yesterday, that Anambra would surprise us all, the surprise has been overwhelming. The anticipation was that both PDP and APC would one way or the other win the election. But my position was that whilst that was a possibility, surprises would be aplenty. The victory was a triumph of governance against turbulence. While the APC had no real plan and their candidate, a no brainer; the PDP candidate Obaze, looked a good match to continue the good pace already set in Anambra. But the…

In order to solve the riddle of this apparent anomaly in Italy, in which the Government of the Home Country of dead and distressed Citizens in a Foreign Land, show no iota of interest or concern, make a list of the 26 girls, showing the place of origin of each of the deceased. It belongs to the farmers in Ayamelum, Onono, Ogbaru, Omasi, Omor and Ufuma who have now realized that Agriculture is the future of Nigeria. First of all, let me seek the permission of my readers to invent a new word. The word certificateless does not exist on the English dictionary. I invented it due to the peculiar situation we find ourselves in, in Nigeria. The word is created to be a noun which simply means the absence of a certificate in a situation where a certificate is required. For instance, both President Muhammadu Buhari and the 20,000 Kaduna State teachers in the midst of Nasir El-Rufai’s brouhaha are certificateless. I will state this saga with a true story. In Edo history, there existed a…

At his incarnation, wise men gifted in astronomy came from the East, all the way to Bethlehem, in the south of Jerusalem, to worship Jesus Christ. They are today known as the Magi, who gave the newborn gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. There is a lot to say on the significance of each gift item, but that is not the purpose of the writing today. Maybe, another day, as the need arises. What we need from that nativity story is that the wise men came all the way from the East, following a star that led them to Bethlehem.…
