“YOU know I am not very happy with Nigeria. I have made that very clear on many occasions. Yes, Nigeria stood by us more than any nation, but you let yourselves down, and Africa and the black race very badly. Your leaders have no respect for their people. They believe that their personal interests are the interests of the people. They take people’s resources and turn it into personal wealth. There is a level of poverty in Nigeria that should be unacceptable. I cannot understand why Nigerians are not more angry than they are. “What do young Nigerians think about…

The Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi on Tuesday, spoke what appeared a shocking statement suggesting he does not expect the President, to rule beyond 2019. Sanusi made the statement at a one-day dialogue forum organised by the Savannah Centre for Diplomacy, Democracy & Development (SCDDD) at Abuja. Sanusi while cautioning the President on his proposed bid to borrow a whooping $30b loan, said with only few months remaining in office, there’s no way the Buhari administration can pay back that huge debt. Apparently concerned by the President’s move, Sanusi said “Let me make this issue clear, I will be…

The sack yesterday, 7th August 2018 of Retired Director Lawal Musa Daura as the Director General of Nigeria’s State Security Service (SSS) by Acting President Yemi Osinbajo, not only marks the Fall of Humanity Crimes’ Suspect Number Two in the present central Government of Nigeria headed by Retired Major Gen Muhammadu Buhari and Law Professor Yemi Osinbajo, but also marks him out as latest entrant into the world list of personae non gratae or international pariah personalities. For purpose of clarity, in global diplomacy or diplomatic circles, a persona non grata or pariah personality is a foreign person whose entering…

I write today to put an end to this protracted, avoidable debate about the meaning of “Niger Delta Region”. First, it is an indisputable fact that the ascription has a political undertone; however, it refers to a region within the Eastern Region that actually exists. This assertion may not be in line with popular cum misguided opinion about the ascription. This piece seeks to exculpate my ardent readers from the cesspit of ignorance and implicit divisive postulations. Niger Delta is a region within another wider region where you find littoral towns – places surrounded by water. We cannot define this…

For watchers of the power configuration in the Buhari administration, the sack of Lawal Daura, former Director-General of State Security Services, yesterday was the end of a chapter in a complex power play at the presidential villa. Recalled from retirement on July 2, 2015 by President Muhammadu Buhari to head the secret service, Lawal, a close associate of the president from his Daura homestead, was destined to be a major pillar of the power structure of the Buhari presidency. And in the bipolar struggle for power at the presidency, Lawal understandably aligned with Mamman Daura, an erstwhile journalist and powerful…

No matter the decibel of the rhetoric, bragadacio and empty noise in Nothingness, Nigeria will never join the league of progressive countries of the world, until we restructure this country to a true federal state , just like we had it during our progressively productive years between 1957 to 1964. This current quasi-unitary structure is not working. It has only created a tiny population of roguish political elite and a mass of deprived, dehumanised, unproductive and beggarly population. Restructuring Nigeria will help to unleash the buried potentials in our people and this country as a whole. The current warped/unwieldly structure…

“Each generation must, out of relative obscurity, discover its mission, fulfill it, or betray it” – Frantz Fanon Beyond any doubt, the battle ahead is summed: progressivism versus fascism. Like the Irish lawyer and politician John Philpot Curran, said: “The condition upon which God hath given liberty to man is eternal vigilance.” All patriotic elements have to be alive to their individual and corporate responsibilities to Nigeria and Nigerians at this trying moments. Where are the members of Save Democracy Group? Where are the Progressives? Fact is: the nation is dangerously adrift and the patriotic elements are not rising to…

The attention of former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar has been drawn to an illegal and undemocratic attempt by fascist forces to break into the National Assembly for the purpose of furthering the agenda to force a change in the Nigerian Senate’s leadership. Atiku Abubakar completely condemns this atrocity and calls on all those involved to put Nigeria first and abandon this madness. The Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended, guarantees both the independence of the Legislature and Separation of Powers. Nigeria is a democracy not a military dictatorship and we the people will never return…

“Until the animals learn to tell their stories, the history of the hunt will always, favour the hunter, not the hunted” The importance of the media in any cause can never be over-emphasized. More often than not, the media, when fully exploited by an evil genius, can make a victim of oppression seem like the perpetrator while the real perpetrator is left looking as though he is the real victim. Even in war, propaganda which is spread through the media, has the capacity to make a weaker side seem like an invincible army thereby bringing down the morale of the…

The gentleman sitting to the right of Lord Frederick Lugard in this picture (see above) is Obed-Edom Chukwuemeka Azikiwe. He’s the father of Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe, the last Governor-General and first President of Nigeria. Obed-Edom Azikiwe was a very influential member of Lugard’s administration. You can see from the photo how highly Lugard regarded him. More About Zik’s Father Obed Edom Azikiwe was Lord Lugard’s private secretary. Sadly, he passed on in 1958, two years before Nigeria’s independence, at the age of 78. Undoubtedly, he would have loved to see his son Zik sworn in as Nigeria’s first Head of…

It troubles and saddens our heart that democracy and good governance built on mandatory fulfillment of social contract obligations by elected and appointed public office holders are not only threatened and endangered but also witnessing funeral ceremonies through maddening and reckless defections in Nigeria. Defection is the oddest side of parliamentary cross-carpeting and greatest threat to party politics founded on ideology. It is also the extreme exercise of right to freedom of association and deemed extra constitutional. Political ideology is a core foundation of democratic partism peopled by political purists or people of noble political class. We have watched with…

It is no longer news that Senator Godswill Akpabio is decamping to the APC; all is set for the move any moment now. Many have received this with great shock. Nothing about his decision seems to make sense especially at a time when the main opposition party, the PDP has put its house in order and is set to welcome even more decampees from the disintegrating APC. It didn’t take long for the facts to leak, the politician who is looking to tighten the grasp he is losing in Akwa Ibom State has over the past three years been hounded…

On Monday, 30 July, 2007, the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) ran a documentary titled: ‘The Gift of Democracy?’ The 27-and-a-half minute documentary tells how Nigeria was rigged at the very beginning. It explains how the British shut out a section of Nigeria and wilfully handed Nigeria over to mediocrity. The revelation is an apt explanation for the failure of Nigeria and the events of the last few weeks which have further confused hopeful Nigerians. Defections, altercations, vacations, elections. Nigeria is a rigged country. We don’t choose idiots as family heads; we don’t hand over our companies to imbeciles but we…

I have admired Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, the Minister of Finance, from a distance. She speaks English the way the Queen of England speaks even though she seems to add a bit of cockney accent to it. She is good with figures which I am not good at which is one reason I chose the writing craft as my life-long engagement. She shows competence, diligence, substantial eloquence and some level of transparency in her work. So I was thrilled to meet her on May 5, 2016 at the Chinese Restaurant, OPIC Plaza, next door to the Sheraton Hotel in Ikeja. She…

Recently Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State was quoted to have told State House Correspondents in Abuja that whoever will take over from him as governor may be stoned by the people if his performance falls below the standard he has set. His words: “I am in this job not for the profit of it, but for the honour and glory of the job. So I want to leave a legacy. I want Imo people to miss me and they will definitely miss me. Believe you me, they have not seen such developmental work before now and they will miss…

Last week, I was trapped for hours on the Isolo-Apapa Expressway in an unprecedented traffic gridlock. Many lanes of the so-called expressway were seized by articulated vehicles especially trailers carrying containers and fuel tankers, forcing other vehicles to drive against the traffic, in an effort to move forward since most of the articulated vehicles seemed stationary. Nigerian road users were sweating and cursing. A friend of mine who was riding with me in exasperation asked, “When will this war end?” I turned to look at him wondering what war he was talking about and what the situation we were in…

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Yakubu Dogara, has said that restructuring is the way forward for Nigeria to develop and realise its true potentials. Dogara disclosed this when he received a delegation from Southern and Middle Belt Leaders Forum comprising leaders of Afenifere, Ohanaeze Ndi-Igbo, Pan Niger Delta Forum and Middle Belt Forum, led by Chief Ayo Adebanjo, last Wednesday. He, however, noted that disagreements might emerge during the deliberation process but insisted that, that is how progress can be made. Speaking on why he supports restructuring, the Speaker said it would make Nigeria more productive but…

Igbo Leaders of Thought, ILT, an umbrella of Igbo statesmen intelligentsia lead by Professor Ben Nwabueze, has told whoever is planning Presidency for Ndigbo in 2023 that Igbo Presidency is no longer on the cards of the nationality. They rather said that what would be more beneficial to Ndigbo and indeed the entire Nigerians is a restructured country, where Presidency would become less attractive and no longer an instrument for ethnic jingoism. The group also warned that the country is close to being equated with a failed state given the level of insecurity with attendant killings across states. It also…

Six governors of South-South and Niger Delta leaders under the aegis of Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) just came out of an emergency meeting held in Asaba, Delta State over the *plan to site a $2 billion refinery in Katsina, an idea they described as highly provocative and cheating to the Niger Delta region.* In a communique read by the governor of Akwa Ibom state, Emmanuel Udom, governors and leaders of Niger Delta accused president Muhammadu Buhari of implementing northern agenda to the detriment of other parts of the country, especially Niger Delta. They said Buhari quickly pushed for the…

Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki and Speaker, House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Immediate past President of the Senate, Senator David Mark has described the purported impeachment of the governor of Benue State Dr. Samuel Ortom as null and void. Reacting to the development in Benue state today, Senator Mark said the alleged impeachment of governor Ortom by eight out of the 30 members House of Assembly is at best an exercise in futility. According to Mark: “it is unconstitutional and devoid of any known legislative practices and procedures. “I will advice members of the Benue state House of Assembly to be guided by the constitution and legislative rules and procedures. In very short and simple language, let me inform the federal government that democracy cannot be mixed up with tyranny. Any government that lacks tact and democratic diplomacy cannot be able to survive for too long especially where the opponents of the government are endowed with requisite political war chests. Power is one thing but effective use of power is another thing. Using military feat to undertake or tackle a democratic political processes or crisis will always be counterproductive. Anymore attempt to wrestle Saraki down and change the leadership of the Senate may bounce back against the government. The power…

Fellow Nigerians, as we count down to the next general elections in 2019, we should begin to take stock of what has gone wrong with the current government in the past three years. We must do this in the hope that a few issues can still be addressed, and that the lessons learnt can be put to good use after 2019, regardless of who wins the next Presidential election. It is certainly my prayer that a repeat of this monumental mess in which we have found ourselves would be avoided come the next government, whether it be President Buhari, or…

Since the advent of the current democratic experience, political mortals feigning ignorance of the dangers of playing God, are beginning to receive their punishments in a very alarming proportion. Government after government in Imo state since 1999 had always come into life by sheer maneuvering of ruthless actors in the field of play. No single government in Imo had come into fruition by the collective mandate of people’s power, rather it has always been thru a fragile swindling conspiracy of concentric circle playing round the political landscape. Even the current administration in Imo today was a product of late night…

The raging battle between the presidency and powerful interests in the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, is far from over as more senators are planning to dump the ruling party, Sunday Tribune can report. A senior legislative source has given an insight into the “discussion” President Muhammadu Buhari had with the senators that are left standing with the APC last Wednesday. The meeting at the Presidential Villa was called after 13 senators elected on the platform of the party dumped it for the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) the day before. At the meeting,…

Leadership is not about profit and loss calculation. Neither is it about being doctors and engineers, but rather about the sacrifice that we make in our lives every day for our society to bring about positive social change. This, captures the mind of a frontline PDP governorship aspirant for 2019 and the current Senator representing Imo East Senatorial District (Owerri Zone) at the Nigerian Senate, Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu (Samdaddy), who has vowed to introduce policies and programmes that will promote positive development when elected as the governor of Imo State. This mandate is as contained in his governorship declaration…

According to the report in one of the national papers, “The Auditor-General for the Federation, AuGF, Mr Anthony Ayine, has said that a total of 65 agencies of [Buhari’s] government never submitted their financial statements for audit purposes in line with the provisions of Financial Regulations 321.” For those who might not understand the meaning of what that report means, let me put it in plain language even before more of the report is brought into this article. Federal public servants have been behaving with impunity. Massive corruption has shifted under Buhari to the MDAs while the President and his…

There is one interesting fact about the ArewaNortherners: They always protect and defend the interest of the ArewaNorth regardless of their political affiliations. Whether PDP, APC, APGA, the ArewaNortherner is always after the interest of the ArewaNorth. For them, it’s not really about personal ambition. It’s always, always, about taking power back to the ArewaNorth and making sure it remains there. This is why in 2015, a whole chairman of the self acclaimed largest political party in Africa (PDP), Adamu Muazu, played “Brutus” to a southern President, Good luck Jonathan and worked for Buhari, a fellow Northern but unlike the…

The 2019 governorship race in Imo State is gathering momentum, and the option before Imo people is to choose from allowing APC to continue perpetuating governance at its lowest ebbs as witnessed over the last seven years, or look the way of PDP and possibly other political parties to resurrect the State. Ruminating on the above, the failure of the PDP in three attempts In 2007, 2011 and 2015 to win Imo State governorship election struck my mind. Once bitten, they say, is twice shy, but here is Imo PDP that has been beaten thrice. It was the following questions…

Nigeria seems to be going through a mid-life crisis these days. The collapse of democracy, the relapse to authoritarianism and the sluggish economy seems to be the order of the day for this government. In addition to this, President Buhari’s often remote and surreptitious style of leadership, has created a lot of uncertainty about his government and Nigeria’s future. Obviously, the cumulative effect of these national issues, has made people uneasy and full of questions. Lately ‘restructuring’ seems to be the word dominating the debate. Whatever it means, we can at least agree that no restructuring of Nigeria can be…

The Senator representing Owerri zone at the upper legislative chamber of the National Assembly, Sen. Samuel Anyanwu, has said he is interested in the governorship of Imo state because the governance experiment in the hands of the incumbent has failed the expectation of the people, making the need to rescue the state imperative. Speaking in a press statement he issued in Abuja, Tuesday, ahead of his formal declaration for the 2019 governorship election in Imo state tomorrow, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stalwart said the state has, rather than grown exponentially in accordance with its potentials, suffered untold bastardization in…

In the area of youth and women empowerment, Senator Anyanwu has excelled greatly. When he defeated all comers to clinch the PDP Senatorial ticket to represent Owerri Zone in 2015, many doubted his capacities to win the general election, as well as impress at the Senate that ofcourse was expected to be largely dominated by former governors, retired military generals and returning Senators. The doubts were further reinforced by the caliber of people that ran both the Party Primaries and the general elections with him. These doubts were not because Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu lacked the potentials, but because they saw it as a herculean task coming as an ordinary member of the…

The All Progressives Congress (APC) kicked up a storm about transparency and accountability during the electioneering and immediately President Muhammadu Buhari was inaugurated. Indeed, the government tagged nearly everyone who had held office in the last administration corrupt. It was the selling narrative and I must confess, it was appealing and convenient to the charge. With a believing public (or should I say a gullible public), it was easily a home run. It’s been three years since this government took over the reins of power, yet corruption has become even more pervasive despite all the noise of purportedly fighting the…

Fellow Nigerians, the die is cast! President Muhammadu Buhari has declared his intention to seek re-election in 2019 against the well-considered advice of many well-meaning Nigerians that doing so would not be in the best interest of our country. I had hoped against hope that the greater love of country would persuade him to retire after his very poor performance in his first term. Apparently, other sentimental and selfish considerations weighed heavily in his decision to run again which unfortunately he claimed was a response to the “clamour by Nigerians for him to re-contest in 2019”. Contrary to what the…

Many of us might not be keenly following the visit of the young French president (Emmanuel Macron) who is currently in Nigeria for an official visit. His visit was not really popularised by the mainstream media due to poor Aso Rock sponsorship on Macron visit media publicity. France from inception has not really been a friend of Nigeria due to her role in Biafra/Nigeria war which cost France her investment and interests in Nigeria today. Till date, Nigeria hasn’t seen France as a trusted friend. Many factors might have led to this agelong mistrust on the side of Nigeria. Apart…

WRITTEN BY Prof. Iyorwuese Hagher* Ph.D, an Executive Director, African Leadership Institute, Dayton, Ohio”. The commentary below was written before PMB came to power but you will think it was written today. Introduction There is a war raging in Nigeria between the Fulani and Tiv ethnic groups. It is a classical multifaceted war; stimulated, driven and fuelled by environmental, political and cultural stressors. While the conflict between the sedentary farmers in Nigeria and the Fulani nomadic cattle herders is decades old, the present escalation into a full-blown war between the Fulani and Tiv “cousins” is a recent phenomenon. It is…

My dear friends, family, associates and constituents, Over the past 17 years, i had received several calls from various friends and political leaders urging me to translate my almost extreme passion for politics, social media activism, mass education and social enlightenment into service to the people by running for office. After prayerful consideration and family discussions I decided to accept the challenge before me, by aspiring to run for the House of Representatives seat to represent Owerri federal constituency. Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Dr. Katch Ononuju, in this interview with BIYI ADEGOROYE and TAI ANYANWU, traces the history of the current clashes between Fulani herdsmen and other ethnic groups in Nigeria and offers some solutions. What do you think is the major cause of the current action by Fulanis or Fulani herdsmen in the country? It is democracy and nothing else. Democracy has over 19 years brought so much confidence to our people, you can’t stop it. This is the first time we are having the longest period of political stability, 20 years. “As a rogue state continued to exploit its citizens, what we have had and still have is a nation too divided and distracted” – Bishop Kukah. Introduction: The Truth of our Nigerian Story? Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has expressed concerns over the alarm by former President Olusegun Obasanjo that the Federal Government plans to arrest Mr Obasanjo on trumped up charges. Mr Obasanjo raised the alarm on Friday through a statement by his spokesperson, Kehinde Akinyemi. Reacting to the development through a statement he personally signed and issued through his media office, Mr Atiku warned government against acts he said could aggravate tension in the country. Below is the statement by Mr Atiku: Statement By former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Alarm Raised By former President Olusegun Obasanjo I have received with serious concern the…

Press Release: June 8, 2018 – Since Chief Olusegun Obasanjo declared in his State-of-the-Nation Special Statement on January 23, 2018, the desperation to frustrate, intimidate and blackmail him into abandoning his divine mandate to protect the rights of the people to better life and living continued unabated and has even taken a bizarre dimension. Impeccable security sources have alleged Chief Obasanjo’s name is on their Watch List and that the security of his life cannot be guaranteed. According to these informants, many of who are in the top echelon of the Nation’s security management and close to the corridors of…

6th June, 2018 PRESS RELEASE: The National Assembly (NASS) yesterday presented an 11-point position paper in which it threatened to impeach President Muhammadu Buhari. The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) is irked by the constant propensity of Nigerian lawmakers to armtwist the executive. We condemn acts of legislative brigandage and parliamentary subjugation of the executive. It is a rape on the democratic principle of separation of powers. We are inclined to believe that the latest threat of impeachment is not unconnected with the current travails of the Senate President, Bukola Saraki. This attempt to turn the heat on Buhari particularly at this material…

The South West geo political zone of Nigeria became a political swing region since 2011. It swung and elected two Presidents: former President Goodluck Jonathan and incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari. This has not been lost on political strategists. Prior to 2015 presidential election, the handlers of President Jonathan saw the hand writing on the wall and moved in to placate the zone. It renamed the University of Lagos after the acclaimed winner of the annulled June 12, 1993 presidential election. That gesture was an act of desperation and Nigerians were not deceived. Jonathan was voted out. Critically, The gesture was…

Lawal Idris has been an ally of President Muhammadu Buhari for over 40 years. He is the one who reportedly got Buhari to join politics. In this interview at his residence in Kaduna, the 69-year-old political observer and retired businessman said, despite his good intention for Nigeria, Buhari has been hijacked, but that there is still hope. Excerpts: The story is that you are very close to President Muhammadu Buhari, how will you describe this closeness? Personally, I have been very close to Buhari since 1972. But I do not know if he is close to me now. Buhari’s presidency…

When a government advertises its No. 3 citizen as a thief … Nigeria is on the road to Babylon: A place of confusion. Three years ago, the people were convinced that they had found a messiah who will lead them to the Promised Land, and meet all their expectations. Onnoghen Saraki and Buhari Today, everyone is speaking in different tongues; “turning and turning in the widening gyre…the falcon cannot hear the falconer… things fall apart; the centre cannot hold/Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world/The blood-doomed tide is loosed, and everywhere/the ceremony of innocence is drowned…surely, some revelation is at…

On Monday, May 4, 2018, our dear brother, Chinweizu, wrote an article entitled: “Federalism, confederalism or restructuring not enough” published in The Sun. His rejection of the demand for autonomous regions is valid, based on his premises. So also is the demand for autonomous regions valid based on the premises on which it is asserted. According to Chinweizu, the Caliphate for whom Nigeria is the estate of their forefathers, will not accept autonomous regions or any form of restructuring of Nigeria that will remove the federation from their firm grip. Only a neophyte lacking in understanding of the dynamics of…

If it is true that the people, and by extension every generation, get the leader (ruler) they deserve then there is no need for anyone to complain about bad system and bad government – we should rather accept our fate and then do the needful. It can’t be better except when we get into the ring to wrestle power for the common good of the majority. Challenge the status quo and you change the narrative. Power is not given; power is rather taken – and by force. The struggle for power is not a jamboree party, so don’t sit in…

Nigerians may recall that members of the former New PDP Block within the All Progressives Congress (APC) addressed a letter dated April 27, 2018 to the Chairman of APC where we informed the party of our grievances and expectations from both the party and government of President Muhammadu Buhari. Following this development, the party invited us and we honoured their invitation for a meeting. We met with the leadership of the party last week during which we resolved to report the outcome of our meeting to our members and stakeholders before arriving at any decision or proceeding with the next…

As President Muhammadu Buhari and a former president, Olusegun Obasanjo, continue to engage in a war of words, a report has been obtained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission regarding corruption allegations against Mr Obasanjo. The clash between the president and one of his predecessors was triggered when Mr Buhari, while receiving a delegation of the Buhari Support Organisation at the Presidential Villa on May 22, indirectly accused Mr Obasanjo ofwasting $16 billion on power projects with nothing to show for it. Mr Obasanjo immediately fired back at the president describing his claims as ignorant and unsubstantiated. The report,…

It will be recalled that by an Open Memorandum dated May 14, 2018, addressed to the Ohanaeze Conveners of the Restructuring Summit and titled, “UNDERSTANDING THE OBJECTION OF THE EASTERN NIGERIA SELF-DETERMINATION COLLECTIVE TO ANY “RESTRUCTURING” THAT WILL BE DEPENDENT ON AMENDMENTS TO THE 1999 CONSTITUTION”, the Lower Niger Congress dissected the core issues driving the disputations between Proponents of Self-Determination in the Greater Eastern Nigeria and those canvassing the Restructuring of Nigeria, in the hope that the illumination offered by that Open Memorandum would bridge the gap between the two sides. Considering the Countrywide support for the Reconfiguration of…

BACKGROUND When in February of 2016, Benjamin Netanyahu declared that “Israel is Coming Back to Africa and Africa is Returning to Israel” he wasn’t joking. That is because Donald Trump must have advised Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to get to work and make more friends on the continent so Israel is not constantly isolated at the United Nations whenever the need for voting arises. Israel is one of the most hated and vulnerable UN member states. If they have more allies, more countries will vote in their favor at the Security Council. This is very critical because Donald Trump will…

Having achieved the change agenda, it is now crystal clear, that the change we had clamoured for is not the change we got. Under your [Buhari’s] tenure the rule of law has been replaced with the rule of force. You have injected fear into the society. People who voted for you to save them from corruption and ineptitude have been barred from speaking up against the myriads of evil and wicked acts being perpetrated by officials in your government,” Frank said. Timi Frank, a leading member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who was controversially suspended as Deputy National Publicity…

Everything, including the minutest and unnoticeable change, has a cost – an opportunity cost. Change is not only a constant phenomenon but it is also something that can happen with or without our consent. People, things, change for good or bad, better or worse, with lots of ripple effects. But whether we are actively involved or otherwise, we almost always, directly or indirectly, feel the effects and consequences of such radical, inevitable changes. This is because while we have control over certain things and may wish some things away, there are countless others we cannot influence and some of them…

Imolites watched with disgust and disbelief on Friday, May 11, 2018 as All Progressives Congress (APC) state secretariat on Okigwe Road in Owerri, Imo state capital went up in flames. For several hours thick smoke that oozed from the fire incidence enveloped the sprawling city causing severe environmental pollution. Those who had activities within the premises scampered for safety as they ran for their dear lives. There was palpable confusion and hysteria in the place. At the end of the incidence monumental damage had been recorded as most of the facilities in the secretariat were razed. The above agonizing reality…

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused President Muhammadu Buhari of corruption in the handing of the fuel subsidy regime under the All Progressive Congress (APC) government. The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Ibe Kachikwu, recently announced its annual expenditure on fuel subsidy saying it had risen to over N1.4 trillion. Mr Kachikwu described the expenditure as ‘under-recovery’ for supply of petroleum products across the country. While the federal government has not formally said it is paying for fuel subsidy, it has consistently pushed the explanation of how public funds are spent to ‘subsidise’ fuel consumption to the Nigerian…

On 24th March 2012, Chief Rochas Okorocha, then less than a year in office as Imo State Governor, was in Kosovo where he signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for an independent power plant, an agro processing plant and several other industries that he promised would be established in his state. There were neither feasibility studies nor any clear ideas as to where the money to finance these projects would come from but those sorts of things never really worry the ebullient governor. A few weeks before the trip to the Balkan Peninsular, Okorocha had declared a four-day holiday for…

A combination of false labelling, misrepresentation of facts, propaganda, distractions, unwillingness, inability, aiding, abetting, condoning and lopsided security appointments by the present Federal Government of Muhammadu Buhari has continued to fuel and escalate the Janjaweed (Jihadists under the cover of cattle herders) attacks and destructions carried out on Christian faithful and other non Muslims and their sacred places of worship in Nigeria especially since mid 2015. Specifically, the central Administration and many, if not most of the mainstream media outfits-majorly owned or controlled by some, if not many serving public office holders and their allies in the country; have intensified…

220 Killings In The Past 15 Days Of May 2018: Nigeria Receding To Total Regime Collapse And Anarchy.
No fewer than 220 killings or violent deaths arising from nontraditional crimes or violence have independently been recorded in Nigeria since the beginning of May 2018 or between 1st and 15th May 2018; out of which no fewer than 71 confirmed deaths and 87 feared deaths took place in Kaduna State alone. There are also no fewer than 59 Christians killed by Jihadist Fulani Herdsmen in the States of Taraba, Adamawa, Benue and Kogi since the beginning of May 2018 or between 1st and 15th May 2018. Over half of the 87 citizens feared killed along Birnin-Gwari Road in Kaduna…

When crocodiles eat their own eggs, let frogs run and run. Because of the 2019 elections, an intra-class war is currently raging among a special breed of Nigerians. I call their exclusive enclave the Generals Club. These are a lucky set of army officers who either staged the counter coup of July 1966 or benefitted from it. That was a coup that forever changed the fortune of Nigeria and its inhabitants. The young officers came, seized and squeezed Nigeria into their suffocating cubicle. They came and became our permanent landlords. They built all the good things; they also enthroned all…

The attempt by president Muhammadu Buhari during his recent visit to America and the UK and the attempt by Senator Jegeri Alkali, leader of Miyetti Allah, to justify Fulani terrorism is as nauseating as it is repugnant. How can a normal person with conscience, sense of responsibility and respect for human lives, give excuses for the unprovoked and unjustifiable aggression against a peace loving people in order to take over their land for the rearing of cattle? The question is, why is Buhari lying to the world about Fulani herdsmen terrorism? Why does the president of Nigeria prefer to characterise…

President Herbert Hoover did not cause the Great Depression. But his sin was that rather than his policies bringing it to an end — or at least bringing it under control — his policies indeed worsened the whole situation. Even knowing fully well that the fact on the ground couldn’t lie, President Hoover preferred to engage in self-deception and false optimism, accusing his predecessor to be responsible for the economic menace. In the meantime, believed that come November 1932 he would be winning landslide. However, Hoover lost big simply because his arrogant mindset blinded him from seeing the reality on…

Gentlemen of the press, Nigeria is on the Brink As you are aware, President Muhammadu Buhari is on his way to the United States, the home of democracy, whereas back home in Nigeria his administration has completely wrecked our democratic order, eroded constitutionally guaranteed rights of citizens while foisting a siege mentality on our people. We have called you here to alert the entire world, particularly, the United States, that our nation is now on the brink. Nigeria is facing a perilous time; our constitution has been technically suspended; we have now become a Police State; governance has reverted to…

24th April, 2018 The attention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Imo State, has again been drawn to a subterranean plot by the All Progressives Congress (APC) of Governor Rochas Okorocha to disobey the nation’s Apex Court directive that the Kangaroo Local Government elections being packaged to defraud unsuspecting political parties and their candidates, in Imo State be put on hold until the Supreme Court determines the case between the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Imo State and the Imo State government. 25th April, 2018 The peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Imo State has observed with utter dismay, the continued onslaught against the people of Imo State and their means of livelihood by Governor Rochas Okorocha. This reprehensible, inhuman and repulsive aggression against the same people whom the governor ate their akara (bean cake), drank their sachets of pure water and hugged, prior to his election in 2011, is to say the least, beastly and unjustifiable. It has to a large extent affirmed the PDP’s position that the All Progressive Congress (APC) and everybody associated with it, are out to only plunder and…

Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, said on Sunday that he had already formed his opinion about the government of the ruling All Progressives Congress and knew exactly “where I’m going to cast my vote” when voting time comes. But Soyinka warned Nigerians not to allow themselves to be hoodwinked by those he said took part in the destruction of the country, but were now parading themselves as messiah. He urged Nigerians not to allow themselves to be plunged into “a zone of amnesia,” but to go back and check the track records of such people and the company they kept.…

In the last couple of weeks, particularly in the last couple of days, I found myself asking the question: What is the value of human life in our dear country Nigeria? Anytime this question popped up in my mind, a part of me yelled out “nothing!” in righteous anger and frustration. But not surprisingly, this is the nagging question on the lips of many Nigerians. We are living in a frightening new reality where people’s lives mean nothing and can be taken at any time by another or others. The Nigerian state is failing abysmally to perform the most important…

Dear President Muhammadu Buhari, I hope this meets you well. I don’t know if you remember me. My name is Simon. Simon Kolawole. Never mind. We will come to that later. Let us briefly journey into history for proper context into why I have chosen to openly write you this morning. I first heard of your name in the evening of December 31, 1983 when you were named the military head of state. Earlier in the day, Brigadier Sani Abacha had woken us up with the announcement of the overthrow of the civilian government of Alhaji Shehu Shagari. The economy…

On account of dejavu alone President Mohammadu Buhari chose the wrong moment to lay bare the open secret of his ambition for a second term in office. In terms of symbolic association, departing Abuja for London in the past one and half years evokes all the wrong memories. Predictably, even before he landed in London, the maniacally driven gossip mills in Nigeria had revved into overdrive in speculations on the real story behind the departure, this time around-afterall, the scheduled meeting of the commonwealth heads of states and government was a week away. Adding sumptuous grit to the rumor mill…

Sometimes, I want to laugh at our people and say, it serves you right. Some other times, I just want to “siddon look”, apologies to our Cicero, the late Chief Bola Ige. And yet more often than not, my first instinct when they are complaining about the “strange” goings-on in government is to say, some of us told you so. You see, a child who fails to heed the warnings of elders to stay away from fire, will run away from ashes after suffering the consequences of fire. The 2015 presidential election has come and gone but the lies, tone,…

The United States government on Friday released a damning human rights report on Nigeria, saying grave violations continued to increase in 2017 while officials who perpetrated them were almost never prosecuted by the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari. Why it matters: President Buhari is scheduled to meet with President Donald Trump at the White House on April 30, and both men would likely discuss further U.S. military assistance to Nigeria against the backdrop of serious human rights violations by security forces who use the same weapons to kill civilians. The U.S. annual report on global human rights violations, released in…

Fellow Nigerians, these are not the best of times for our dear President, Muhammadu Buhari. And it must be much worse for his media handlers. Let me state matter-of-factly, from the onset, that President Buhari gets into regular trouble, indeed, too frequently, because he has invested heavily in a media team but lacks a public relations team. In Nigeria, most leaders fail to realise that being a good journalist, Editor, Publisher, Broadcaster, and what have you, does not make you a good or excellent public relations guru. The other problem is I’m not sure the President is surrounded by those…

The National president of the Arewa Youths Consultative Forum (AYCF), Yerima Shettima has condemned President Buhari’s lazy Nigerian youths comment. Buhari, while speaking at the Commonwealth Business Forum in Westminster on Wednesday, April 18, 2018, said the country’s youthful population is reliant on the notion that Nigeria is an oil-rich nation, which leads to the demand for free things. He said “More than 60 percent of the population is below 30, a lot of them haven’t been to school and they are claiming that Nigeria has been an oil producing country, therefore, they should sit and do nothing, and get…
